Art, Design and Technologies

Pulteney views the arts as a pathway for students to investigate the world through complex lenses and build their knowledge of classic and modern artforms. Studying the Arts can follow several distinct but interconnected subject pathways: Art, Design, Creative Industries, and Creative Arts.

Art and Creative Arts pathways provide opportunities to explore a wide variety of artforms, such as painting, ceramics, drawing, sculpture, photography, animation, and digital media. Design pathways provide opportunities to explore architectural and environmental design, graphic design, fashion and product design. The Creative Industries experience provides students the opportunity to develop a real-world creative enterprise, operating out of the Osmond St Café or Atelier.

Through The Arts, students learn to express their ideas, thoughts and opinions as they discover and interpret the world. They learn that designing, producing, and resolving their work is as essential to learning as creating a finished artwork.

Technologies pathways provide students with the opportunity to develop the digital literacies essential to the modern workforce, as students work collaboratively to innovate, problem solve and develop real-world solutions. Digital Technologies pathways provide opportunities to explore web and game development, operating systems, 3D modelling, mechanical engineering and electronics. Students explore how data can be transformed into useful and interesting information for the public, analyse raw datasets and research the ethical issues in digital technologies, including the emergence of Artificial Intelligence. Design Technologies and Engineering pathways provide opportunities for students to develop solutions using the design cycle. Students are challenged through hands-on problem-based learning, building and programming their own robots for a variety of purposes. Students develop their skills in CAD and 3D printing to fabricate parts for their machines and investigate the rapidly growing robotics industry.
