Pulteney’s Uniform Shop
Our uniform represents more than just a dress code — it is a visible expression of pride, belonging and shared identity.
While we are currently transitioning to a new uniform, the ‘Navy Blue’ has long been the cornerstone of the Pulteney uniform and continues to be a defining element of our School’s visual identity. The Pulteney uniform connects our young people to the rich traditions and values of our community. Whether in the classroom, at co-curricular events, or out in the wider world, the uniform unites students across all year levels and backgrounds, fostering a strong sense of connection and mutual respect. For our students, wearing the Pulteney uniform is a daily reminder that they are part of something greater — a legacy of scholars, leaders, and innovators who carry our School’s reputation forward with pride.

Pulteney outerwear and blazer requirements
At Pulteney Grammar School, blazers are mandatory for all students from Years 1 to 12 when wearing the winter uniform (Terms 2 and 3). The blazer should be worn to and from school every day as the primary outer garment. If additional warmth is needed, students may wear the optional woolen jumper or vest underneath their blazers. Optional items such as the soft shell jacket, puffa jacket, and puffa vest should only be worn on school premises and are not considered official outerwear. The blazer must always be accompanied by a Pulteney tie when worn with the winter uniform.
In addition to daily wear during winter, blazers should also be worn at assemblies, official events, excursions (unless otherwise specified), and when students are outside of school in the formal uniform.
During Terms 1 and 4, when the summer uniform is worn, the blazer must be worn to formal assemblies and official occasions as directed by the Principal. If the forecast indicates a temperature of 35 degrees Celsius or higher, blazers need not be worn.
Junior School (Years 1–6) Specific Requirements: Junior School students who have PE on the day do not need to wear the formal uniform to Junior School assemblies or chapel services. However, for full school formal assemblies, including the start and end of term assemblies, the formal uniform must be worn.
Changing for PE and after school sport
In the Junior School, students may wear their PE uniform to and from school on days when they have a Physical Education (PE) lesson.
From Year 5 and above, students participating in before or after school cocurricular sport are required to:
-
Wear their academic uniform to school.
-
Bring their PE or sport uniform with them.
-
Change into their sport uniform after school, or as required.
Students from Year 5 onwards must bring their uniform with them and change at school—wearing their formal academic uniform to and from school remains the expectation.
We appreciate your support in reinforcing these expectations at home.
Please note:
Students are now required to wear the new sports uniform when representing Pulteney in interschool competitions.
To help your child be prepared, we ask parents to encourage students to:
-
Know their PE timetable and training schedule, and
-
Pack the appropriate uniform each day.

FAQs about Pulteney's new uniform
Background on the development of Pulteney's new uniform
Since 2021, Pulteney has been working with students, parents, staff and subsequently with uniform supply companies to develop new directions for the School’s uniform to reflect the high expectations of Pulteney and its community. The identified pillars to guide the process and selection of a suitable partner were quality, sustainability, price, function and image.
The design process spanned two years and involved students, staff, parents, the School Board, Executive, and leadership. Following the tender process, Pulteney engaged the services of Dobson’s, a sustainable uniform designer, to create a wardrobe that is comfortable, stylish and eco-friendly. A comprehensive survey to the community highlighted key themes such as comfort, gender neutrality, and a sustainable approach, which played a significant role in shaping the new designs, as did feedback from stakeholder groups as sample pieces were unveiled.
The new uniform, rolling out from Term 1 2024, offers a modern mix-and-match wardrobe that emphasises flexibility, comfort and sustainability. Notably, it provides more options for girls, including pinafores, skirts, pants, and skorts, all designed with eco-friendly fabrics.
As part of the new partnership, Dobsons have commenced operations of Pulteney’s Uniform Shop. As we transition into this new phase, please be assured that the exceptional level of customer service you currently enjoy will remain a top priority. Liz and the team will remain in the Uniform Shop, ensuring a seamless and familiar experience for you and your family.
Wearing of the new uniform will be a requirement from Term 1 2027.
Why has Pulteney revamped its School uniform?
The decision to revamp our School uniform was driven by several key objectives:
One Pulteney: We aim to unify the School’s appearance across all levels while offering age-appropriate differences.
Modernisation: Our new uniform reflects the values of our community, modernising academic and sports attire while preserving Pulteney’s identity and reputation, particularly the navy blue legacy.
Inclusivity: We want every student to feel comfortable, regardless of their gender or background.
Sustainability: We are pioneering sustainable practices, becoming the first school in South Australia to introduce eco-friendly fabrics and finishes.
Cost-Effective: The new uniform aims to be more affordable for our community.
What is changing?
The new uniform available since Term 1 2024, offers a modern wardrobe that emphasises flexibility, comfort and sustainability. Notably, it provides more options for girls, including pinafores, skirts, pants, and skorts, all designed with eco-friendly fabrics.
Uniform transition period
The transition period will span three years. It began at the beginning of 2024 and concludes at the end of Term 4, 2026. During this period, students may wear either the current uniform or the new uniform but not a mix of both on any given day. The current uniform will be phased out by the end of Term 4, 2026.
All students must wear the new uniform from Term 1, 2027.
