Precautions against the spreading of colds, viral infections and contagious diseases are very necessary in schools. Parents should keep children home if they are running a temperature or showing any signs of being unwell.

Children who have had vomiting or diarrhoea should be kept at home for at least 24 hours after the last episode.

COVID-19 safe measures

Updated February 2024.

Pulteney Grammar School continues to follow the advice of SA Health in responding to COVID-19.

At this point in time:

  • Isolation is no longer mandated for positive COVID-19 infections; it is recommended that positive infections remain at home for 5 days at a minimum and until symptoms cease
  • Parents are not mandated to report positive cases to schools
  • Schools are not required to report positive cases to SA Health

Whilst isolation is not mandated for positive COVID-19 infection, it is recommended that positive infections remain at home until symptoms cease.

In the event that the School is notified of 10 or more positive cases in a class/room across seven days, the School will consider implementing measures including restrictions on activities for that class/room or the implementation of a ‘circuit breaker’ of remote learning for the affected classroom. A response such as this does require families to notify the School of a positive case, which can be done when a parent notifies the School of absenteeism.

As with all illnesses, precautions against the spreading of colds, viral infections and contagious diseases are necessary in schools. Parents should keep children home if they are running a temperature or showing any signs of being unwell.

Accidents, illness and the sick bay

If a student has an accident or falls ill at school, appropriate first aid will be given by staff and or the School Nurse. This assistance will include, where necessary, emergency ambulance transport to a hospital. During the school day, students may go to the Health Centre when feeling unwell. If a student continues to feel unwell then parents may be notified to come and collect their child.

Immunisation schedules change approximately every 2 years. The schedule followed by your child will be determined by their date of birth. The use of immunisations is recommended by the government and supported by Pulteney.

For more information about immunisations, please visit the National Immunisation Program Schedule (NIP) or speak with your regular family practitioner.

Infectious Diseases

Please notify the school if your child contracts an infectious disease. Some common infectious diseases include (but are not limited to) chicken pox, conjunctivitis, cold sores, common cold, gastroenteritis, giardia, Hand, Foot & Mouth, head lice, measles, school sores (impetigo).

Please visit the SA Health website for information about infectious diseases and exclusion from school periods or speak to your family health practitioner.

Medication

Medication should be scheduled out of school hours wherever possible. If medication is required during school hours please complete a medication administration form, available from the School Nurse or Class Teacher.

Medication must be in original container and clearly labelled with Student’s name and instructions for administration.

Nut Aware School

To protect all children at Pulteney who have a severe allergy to peanuts and nuts, it is a School policy that foods containing peanut and nut products are not brought to School or events. These products may include peanut and nut flavoured crackers, sweets and other foods (eg satay crackers, fruit and nut chocolate, muesli bars containing nuts). Please assist us to protect children who may have aa severe allergy, sometimes leading to an anaphylactic reaction, by checking the ingredients in the products you pack in your child’s lunch box.
