Art, Design and Technologies
Art, Design and Technologies is where ideas take shape. It is a space for curious, creative thinkers who want to explore, experiment, and bring their ideas to life.
Across our courses, students draw, design, construct and create—developing strong technical skills while working with a wide range of materials, processes and technologies. From traditional art-making to contemporary design practices, students learn how to transform an idea into a resolved, meaningful outcome.
At the heart of this learning area is personal voice. Students are encouraged to explore concepts, questions and themes that matter to them, developing work that reflects their interests, perspectives and creativity. They are supported to take risks, think independently, and refine their ideas through an ongoing process of making and problem-solving.
Art, Design and Technologies also builds the capabilities students need for the future. They learn to think creatively and critically, respond to challenges, and approach projects with initiative and purpose. Through design thinking and hands-on practice, students develop confidence, adaptability and a strong sense of agency.
Students consider audience, context and impact, gaining insight into how creative work exists in the real world—from personal expression through to entrepreneurial and industry pathways. Whether pursuing creative industries or other fields, students leave with a valuable combination of practical skills and innovative thinking.
At Year 10, students deepen their skills while stepping into greater independence and ownership of their learning. In Visual Art, students refine their technical abilities while beginning to shape a more personal and independent creative practice. In Creative Arts (Photography and Multimedia), students experiment with lighting, composition and contemporary techniques to produce striking and imaginative visual work. Creative Industries challenges students to launch and run their own enterprise, building confidence, leadership and real-world experience through authentic, student-led projects. In Design, students explore fields such as architecture, fashion and graphic design, developing innovative ideas with increasing autonomy and purpose. Digital Technologies empowers students to code, explore artificial intelligence, and engage with cybersecurity and ethical hacking, building skills at the forefront of a rapidly evolving digital world. In Robotic Engineering, students design, build and program combat-ready robots, applying engineering, coding and fabrication skills in an exciting, hands-on arena.
