What will be in the course?

In Stage 2 Visual Art, students undertake a highly personalised and self-directed creative journey, developing practical work that reflects their ideas, interests, and perspectives. Working across a range of media, which could include painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, digital media or installation, students explore and refine the techniques best suited to their intentions.

Through investigation, experimentation and resolution, students use visual thinking to develop and communicate ideas with increasing clarity and sophistication. They analyse the work of artists and visual cultures, drawing on these insights to inform and challenge their own practice. Engagement with the SACE Art Show and visits to the Art Gallery of South Australia, alongside interactions with practicing artists, provide valuable real-world context and inspiration.

By the end of the course, students produce resolved practical works that demonstrate both technical control and a strong individual voice, supported by a folio and investigation that documents their thinking, experimentation, and creative development. The year culminates with a public exhibition of student work. This course prepares students for future pathways in the creative industries and beyond, equipping them with the ability to think deeply, communicate visually, and create work with purpose and impact.
