Sport – Junior School

In the blink of an eye the 2022 Junior Sport season comes to a close, with the final round of cricket matches on Saturday rounding out the year. And what a year it has been! We began with a delayed start and an interrupted Term 1 and beginning of Term 2 due to Covid-19 restrictions. Following this we had one of the wettest winters on record with most of the rain falling in the centre of the Pulteney ovals creating a wonderful wetland for the native fauna and a few local skim-boarders.

Aside from all the interruptions and cancellations it has been a very successful year for Pulteney junior sport. We nominated over 50 teams into various competitions across a wide range of summer and winter sports. Over 90% of Junior School students participated in the program with the majority being involved in multiple sports – a wonderful trend we strive to build on. We also had some success in the State-wide Cup knockout competitions with the Year 5/6 girls’ soccer team finishing second in the state and the Year 5/6 boys netball team finishing third in the state. There were also several individual achievements that saw Pulteney students selected to represent the East Adelaide District at state carnivals including Athletics, Cross Country, Hockey, Football and Soccer to name a few.

Some other highlights for the year included a visit from Australian fast bowler, Darcie Brown; the inaugural Junior Anglican Sports Carnival held at St Peters Woodlands (our netball team came home with the Karen Whelan Cup) and the Junior School Sports Day way back in Term 1.

A massive thank you must be said to everyone that has contributed to Junior Sport this year. All my colleagues in the Pulteney Sport Department, Emma Bahr, Scott Camporeale and Michelle den Dekker, all of our wonderful coaches, teacher supervisors, sport directors, umpires, parents and families, the Junior Sport Captains and most importantly the Junior School students.

I wish everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday period and look forward to an even bigger and better 2023 for Pulteney Junior Sport!
