Art, Design and Technologies

At Year 11, students begin to shape their pathway, developing greater independence, specialisation and depth in their learning. Stage 1 Art, Design and Technologies offers a range of interconnected subjects—Art, Design, Photography and Digital Media, Robotics and Digital Technologies—allowing students to pursue their interests while building valuable creative and technical capabilities.

Visual Art and Creative Arts subjects invite students to explore a wide range of practices, including painting, ceramics, drawing, sculpture, photography, animation and digital media. Students develop their technical skills while investigating ideas, concepts and visual languages, refining their ability to communicate meaning through resolved works.

Design subjects focus on purposeful creation, with opportunities to explore areas such as architecture, environmental design, graphic design, fashion and product design. Students engage in design thinking processes – researching, ideating, prototyping and resolving – while considering audience, function and impact.

Technologies subjects equip students with essential digital and engineering skills for a rapidly evolving world. In Digital Technologies, students explore areas such as programming, web and game development, data analysis and artificial intelligence, while engaging with ethical considerations in emerging technologies. In Design Technologies and Engineering (Robotics), students apply the design cycle through hands-on, problem-based learning, developing solutions using robotics, CAD and 3D printing, and gaining insight into the rapidly growing robotics industry.

Across all pathways, students are challenged to think creatively and critically, solve problems, and take ownership of their learning—preparing them for future study, careers and a world that values innovation, adaptability and initiative.
