Year 11 University/TAFE excursion – Tuesday 9 April 2024

On Tuesday 9 April (Week 11), all Year 11 students will attend a university campus, where they will undertake workshops and a tour, to explore some of the opportunities and facilities available at university. Parents of students in Year 11 will receive further information tomorrow.

Year 11 and Year 12 Career Breakfast – Tuesday 14 May 2024

On Tuesday 14 May (Term 2, Week 3), the biennial Year 11 and Year 12 Career Breakfast will be held in Wyatt Hall, starting at 7.00am. This is a fabulous opportunity for students to explore possible future career options by talking with professionals from a range of different occupations and industries. I strongly encourage all Year 11 and 12 students to attend this event, as it is a really great way to gain first-hand information about career areas they are possibly interested in pursuing plus they have an opportunity to make a contact in that area for future work experience or mentoring. Students have been emailed further details and need to register their interest by this Thursday 28 March.

CDW Holiday Workshop – Intro to Concept Art with Simon Scales: April 15-16 2024

Students interested in developing their skills in concept art in the film and gaming industry are invited to attend a two-day workshop on 15 and 16 April at CDW. Over these two jam-packed days, students will be guided through the creative process, and they will leave this workshop with new skills, new connections, and a passion for concept art. This workshop is great for beginners and is open to anyone 14 years and older. The cost is $120 for the 2 days. For further information and to register, click here.

NYSF STEM Hub, Adelaide – April 15 to April 19 2024

The National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) STEM Hubs are designed to give students a broader understanding of the diverse study and career options available in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and to encourage continued studies in these fields.​ A STEM Hub is a non-residential STEM experience, where students can connect with STEM pathways and careers around Australia. Students will join exclusive behind-the-scenes experiences typically inaccessible to the public and connect with STEM professionals—a crucial networking opportunity for your future. YES (Young Entrepreneur Summit) Adelaide – June 17 2024

Led by young leaders, for young leaders, YES (Young Entrepreneur Summit) is Australia’s Premier Youth Leadership Day. It’s a one-day, interactive summit designed to inspire and empower a generation of brave, creative and entrepreneurial young leaders.

YES is a super high energy, action-packed event for Primary School and Secondary School students that features keynote presentations, panel discussions and interactive group workshops on a whole range of ‘adulting skills’ such as leadership, public speaking, financial literacy, ideation, collaboration and team work.

ICHM | Discovery Day – 23 May or 13 June 2024

ICHM Discovery Days aim to get students thinking differently about their post high school studies and career development, covering a range of exciting topics including international business and tourism, luxury hotel design and hospitality opportunities. If your child is interested in exploring Business and Hotel Management as a career area, they are invited to join ICHM for a day of fun and discovery while finding out about different areas of learning, that could help them develop and explore a future in hospitality and business management. Bond University Virtual Open Day

Students interested in exploring Bond University as a possible option for future study are invited to experience Bond’s deliberately different approach to learning at their Virtual Open Day, streaming live on Saturday 13 April from 2pm AEST. Maritime Immersion Week – trip to Launceston, Tasmania

Does your child love the water and want to dive into a rewarding maritime career? Year 10, 11 and 12 students from across South Australia have an opportunity to set sail for a week -long learning adventure, including four days exploring their future study options at the Australian Maritime College (AMC), our national institute for Maritime education training and research in Tasmania. Try-a-VET course opportunity – Semester 2

Students interested in exploring a Try–a-VET course at Thebarton Senior College, in either Film & TV, Screen & Media, IT or Trades (including Construction, Plumbing, Metal Machining and Metal Fabrication) are advised that these one day a week courses, commencing in Semester 2, are now open for applications. Year 10 and 11 students have been emailed detailed information and are encouraged to apply early if they wish to be considered, as these courses often fill up quickly.

Future Health Leaders Program – Year 11 female students – applications close 5 April 2024

The Future Health Leaders Program is designed to inspire female high school students to enter a career in health and medical research, innovation and life sciences. The Program brings together a group of twelve young women, chosen from around Australia, for a single day session at Australian National University in Canberra to showcase the diversity of career pathways across health and medical research with a focus on engaging with female leaders in their respective field and inspire a passion in entering a career in health and medical research. The program is now open for applications from Australian students in Year 11 who identify as female. Defence Careers Information Session – April 9 2024: 6 – 8pm

If your child is interested in exploring the Defence Force as a possible career, they are invited to attend the upcoming Defence Careers Information Sessions on Tuesday 9 April at Adelaide ADF Careers Centre in Pulteney Street. At this session, they will be able to talk with current serving personnel ask questions to determine if a career in the Australian Defence Force is for them. ACU – Talk with Lawyers and Human Rights Advocates – 10 April 2024; 6pm

Students interested in exploring careers as a Lawyer or in the Human Rights area are invited to join alumni from the Australian Catholic University  to hear about life after university. They will be able to take part in a Q&A session with the graduates and get an insider’s perspective on working in law and human rights. For further information and to register, click here.

University of Melbourne Residential Colleges Open House – Saturday 11 May 2024

Are you looking to attend the University of Melbourne and thinking about Residential Colleges? Then they want to meet you! Their ten Uni Melb Residential Colleges are holding an Open House event of tours on Saturday 11 May 2024, 12noon-4pm. At the event, students and families will be able to hear from current students, meet the academic and pastoral care staff, learn more about their scholarship programs and discover the best of residential college clubs, societies, events and leadership opportunities. Lunch and refreshments will be served across the Colleges on the day. There will be tours on a rolling basis departing at regular times from 12noon until 3.30pm. Adelaide Film Festival Youth Filmmaking competition 

Is your child a young writer, director, cinematographer or actor?  Submissions for the AFF Youth Filmmaking Competition are open now and close on 5 JULY. AFF Youth is a great opportunity for South Australian school students and young people to create, produce and share their films on the big screen as part of the internationally acclaimed Adelaide Film Festival, held between 23 October and 3 November 2024. The shortlisted films in each category will be announced at the AFF Youth Gala, where young filmmakers will have the chance to walk the red carpet, get their photo snapped and see their work on the big screen in front of a full cinema. Entries can be made by individuals, groups and classes in any genre or style. Pulteney’s Futures website contains information on all things ‘careers’, including job seeking skills, career exploration tools and post-schooling study links, plus links to other career and ‘future’ relevant websites. It also has a ‘useful links’ tab to assist students in exploring possible future career areas. In addition to contacting me, I would encourage you and your child to explore this website when you are seeking ‘FUTURES’ information.
