What will be in the course?
In Stage 2 Design, students undertake a highly personalised and self-directed design journey, developing innovative and original solutions that respond to real-world contexts and audiences. Students may work across areas such as architectural, landscape, product, graphic or fashion design, selecting pathways that align with their interests and strengths.
Through investigation, ideation and iterative prototyping, students use design thinking to develop and communicate purposeful ideas. They analyse the work of designers and visual cultures, drawing on these insights to refine their own practice and approach. Visits to the SACE Art Show and the Art Gallery of South Australia, along with engagement with practicing artists and designers, provide valuable industry context and inspiration.
Students are encouraged to think creatively and critically, respond to design briefs, and consider audience, function and impact in their work. The course culminates in a public exhibition, where students present resolved design outcomes that demonstrate technical skill, innovation and a strong individual design voice. This course prepares students for future pathways in the design industry, the creative industries and beyond, equipping them with the ability to think deeply, communicate visually, and create work with purpose and impact.
