Swimming Carnival
The Annual Swimming Carnival will once again be held at the SA Aquatic and Leisure Centre (Marion) in Week 2 of Term 3, on Wednesday 29 July. Students and staff will travel to and from the event by bus.
This promises to be a fun and exciting event, and all students are expected to attend. Further information will be provided in Week 1 of Term 3.

Volleyball
Round 8 saw another strong week for Pulteney Volleyball, with several impressive performances across both the boys’ and girls’ competitions.
The boys continued their excellent season, with the U19B1 side battling hard in a closely contested match before narrowly going down 1-2. The U19B2 team produced a fantastic performance to defeat a strong Austral outfit, while the U17B1 team maintained their outstanding form, extending their winning streak with another convincing 3-0 victory. The U15B1 team also continued their impressive campaign, recording a comfortable 3-0 win to remain firmly in second place on the ladder.
For the girls, the U19G1 team fell 0-3, but the scoreboard didn’t reflect how competitive the match was, with the first two sets providing plenty of positives to build on. The U17G1 team enjoyed one of their best performances of the season, defeating South in a high-quality contest. The U15G1 side went down 0-3, however they showed encouraging signs throughout the match and continue to make steady improvements each week.
With only a few rounds remaining, our teams continue to grow in confidence and consistency as they prepare for an exciting finish to the season.
Basketball
It was another successful weekend for Pulteney Basketball, with five wins from seven games across the Middle and Senior programs.
The Senior A boys faced a strong Pembroke side and battled hard throughout the contest before falling 44-54. Despite the result, the team showed plenty of resilience and will look to bounce back next round. The Senior B team continued their strong season with a composed 39-28 victory, while the Senior C side maintained their excellent form, producing a dominant defensive display to claim a convincing 41-17 win.
In the middle school competition, the Middle A team fought hard but couldn’t overcome Pembroke, going down 28-39. The Middle B boys were involved in one of the games of the round, holding their nerve in a thrilling 51-49 victory. The Middle C team controlled their matchup from start to finish, securing a comfortable 36-20 win, while the Middle D side rounded out an outstanding day for the program with an emphatic 32-10 victory.
With five wins from seven matches, it was another encouraging weekend that highlighted the depth and development across the Pulteney Basketball program. As the season enters its final stages, our teams continue to build confidence and momentum heading towards the finals.

Football Senior Boys
Pulteney 4.4(28) def by Concordia 12.11(83)
Pulteney Grammar faced a challenging contest against Concordia, with the team made to defend for long periods, particularly in the first half. Despite Michael Owen consistently getting his hands to the ball first in the ruck, Pulteney struggled to capitalise through the midfield early, losing several centre clearances in the opening quarter. This placed the defensive group under immediate pressure, with Concordia able to generate repeated entries inside their forward 50.
To the team’s credit, the backline worked hard and defended well given the circumstances. Zac Holman and Hamish Beaven were particularly dependable down back, regularly beating their opponent and helping to strengthen Pulteney’s defensive structure. As the game progressed into the second quarter, Pulteney began to peg back the centre clearance battle and worked their way into the contest.
When Pulteney was able to move the ball deep inside forward 50, A. Moyse looked lively and provided a strong target in attack. After half time, the team responded positively, kicking the first two goals of the third quarter to bring the game back within reach. At three-quarter time, Pulteney remained four goals down and looked capable of mounting a comeback.
Unfortunately, the final quarter proved challenging, with our skill execution letting us down at important moments. Despite this, there were still some encouraging passages of play late in the game, particularly when we showed composure, lowered our eyes, and found targets ahead of the ball. This will remain a key focus in the coming weeks as we prepare for our Intercol match against St John’s Grammar.

Football Middles Boys
Pulteney Grammar 12.6.78 defeated Seaview High 6.2. 38
It was a tight contest early, with both sides kicking two goals apiece in the opening quarter. Played in difficult, windy conditions on an oval much larger than the boys are used to, the team adapted well and matched the opposition’s intensity from the outset.
The second quarter saw the boys find their rhythm. Their running game came to life, and by using handball effectively to create space, they were able to free up teammates and move the ball with greater speed. The quarter was won four goals to two, giving us a narrow lead at the main break.
The boys lifted their intensity even further in the second half, kicking six goals to two. Their ball movement was outstanding, with a willingness to use the corridor, look inboard, and find teammates through accurate kicking. Their tackling was exceptional, and the relentless pressure they applied whenever the opposition had possession forced mistakes and created scoring opportunities.
The team’s unselfishness was another highlight. Time and again, players chose to give the ball to teammates in better positions, and that selfless approach was rewarded on the scoreboard.
Overall, it was a fantastic team performance. The outstanding ball movement, pressure, and willingness to work for one another were key factors in the victory. It was especially pleasing to see the boys maintain their excellent form after a three-week break.

Soccer – Girls
Pulteney Senior Girls Soccer produced an outstanding performance last week, defeating Mercedes 7–0 in a dominant team effort.
The girls were terrific across all aspects of the game, showing excellent tenacity to win every contest and strong tactical awareness throughout. Their commitment, teamwork and energy were on full display from start to finish, resulting in a well-deserved 7–0 triumph.
Goal scorers were Mia S. with 3, Zoe with 2, and Marie and Minh Minh with 1 each.
Well done, girls we are incredibly proud of you. Thank you also to the parents who came along to support the team; your encouragement is greatly appreciated. Go Pulteney!
Netball
It was fantastic to welcome all of our Netball players back after a refreshing holiday break. Well done to every girl who stepped out onto the court, it is never easy returning after an extended break, all teams approached their matches with great enthusiasm and effort.
A sincere thank you also goes to our parents for their ongoing support each Saturday morning, often braving the cold on the sideline to encourage the girls. Your commitment and encouragement are greatly appreciated.
A friendly reminder that our Friday morning skills session commenced last week. We were delighted with the excellent turnout and it was wonderful to see the girls transfer some of the skills learned into their Saturday morning game. If you are still interested in joining, please email Mr Garrad.
