English
The English curriculum at Pulteney focusses on developing students’ knowledge, understanding and skills in listening, reading, viewing, speaking, writing and creating. Learning in English is recursive and cumulative, building on concepts, skills and processes developed in earlier years.
Students engage with a range of texts, including a variety of forms and perspectives, to build their confidence and capacity to analyse, interpret, evaluate, discuss, create and perform. Students develop a critical understanding of how texts, language, and visual and audio features are influenced by context. Moreover, they refine their confidence in expressing their own voice and ideas by selecting and experimenting with text structures and features, organising and developing ideas for a range of purposes and audiences.
Pulteney English teachers aspire to develop a culture of academic rigour within their classrooms, whilst fostering joy for the learning process.
