The Principal, Term 3 Week 5 2026

A Week of Energy, Opportunity and Navy Blue Pride

One of the things I love most about working at Pulteney is the pace, energy and sheer variety of activity that fills our school. There is such a positive vibe around the campus, and this week is a wonderful example of the many ways our students, staff and broader community come together to enhance teaching and learning, foster relationships and build an even stronger sense of belonging.

Science Week is bringing curiosity and discovery to life across the School. From our youngest budding scientists in the Junior School through to students who may one day become biologists, chemists, physicians, psychologists or robotic engineers, our students will be immersed in experiments, research, hypothesis and investigation. Most importantly, they will be encouraged to ask questions, explore possibilities and develop that wonderfully important quality of a great learner – curiosity.

My thanks to Mr Tom Mildren and our Science faculty for creating such rich, engaging and thought-provoking experiences for our students.

Our much-anticipated Winter Intercollegiate competition with St John’s Grammar also gets underway, quite literally, tonight. Our students will proudly represent the Navy Blue in Basketball, Netball and Girls’ Soccer at St John’s, while Boys’ Soccer and Girls’ and Boys’ Football will take place at Pulteney’s playing fields on Thursday afternoon.

These events are about much more than the games themselves. They are opportunities to build school spirit, recognise and celebrate the commitment and effort of our students, and unite our community through teamwork and achievement. We are planning a high-energy atmosphere, with food, music and plenty of vibrant Navy Blue pride on display. I encourage as many members of our community as possible to get involved and support our teams.

And then, on Thursday evening, it is time to get your boogie shoes on!

The famous Gig@theGov is back from 6.30pm, and I know we are all looking forward to a wonderful night of entertainment performed by our highly skilled and passionate students and staff.

The Gig@theGov comes at the end of an outstanding month for our Performing Arts students. At the recent ABODA Festival, competing against 45 local schools, our Stage Bands were awarded Bronze, Senior Drum Corps claimed Silver, Intermediate Drums won the Championship, and our Strings were awarded Gold and crowned Overall Champions.

Our Dance students have also achieved wonderful results, with second place in Senior Musical Theatre, second place in Senior Jazz and third place in Senior Hip Hop. Amelia Wirtz achieved third place for her solo at the Dance Ultra competition, while Patrick Longen received special acknowledgement from the adjudicator, who was impressed by his talent following his performance of Brotherhood.

These achievements reflect enormous talent, but also the dedication, discipline and persistence of our students and the commitment of the staff who support them. Congratulations to Ms Rosy Dobre for all she does to guide, encourage and support our students to achieve their very best.

We are also delighted to welcome a significant number of visitors to our campus this week. Tonight, more than 120 parents of current Year 6 students and new families joining us in Year 7 in 2027 will attend our Orientation Evening. The evening is strategically designed to support students as they prepare for a successful transition into our Middle School, while also providing an opportunity for parents to begin forming new friendships and connections within our community, hopefully helped along by some wine and cheese!

Across Wednesday and Thursday, we will welcome more than 240 guests to our Principal Tours. We are very much looking forward to sharing Pulteney in action with these prospective families, showcasing the breadth of opportunities available to our students, our understanding of the critical relationship between personal wellbeing and academic success, and our strong commitment to personalised learning and character development.

Ever a busy place, there is much to be proud of at Pulteney. I feel very fortunate to witness the extraordinary kaleidoscope of activity that enriches the experience of our students each day and, importantly, strengthens our shared sense of identity, connection and community.

I hope to see you on the sidelines, by the stage or in our learning areas throughout the week.

It is a great week to be part of the Navy Blue!
