What will be in the course?

The Year 10 Sports Science elective offers students a dynamic and applied exploration of sport performance through the lens of Physical Education. This subject allows students to investigate the scientific principles that underpin athletic development, focusing on areas such as exercise physiology, sports psychology, and skill acquisition.

Through the use of GPS and heart rate monitoring technology, students collect and analyse performance data to explore how the body responds to physical activity. This practical element enables a deep understanding of training load, intensity, and recovery, providing insight into the physical demands of various sports.

Students also engage in games analysis to evaluate the technical and tactical aspects of performance, identify key physical attributes, and make connections between physiological, psychological, and skill-based factors in sport. The elective also introduces coaching principles, helping students design effective training strategies and reflect on athlete development from both a biomechanical and psychological perspective.

This subject is ideal for students with a passion for sport, health, and performance, and is particularly beneficial for those considering pathways in PE, health sciences, coaching, or elite sport.

This course has been specifically designed to help develop students attributes and skillsets required to be successful in studying Stage 1 and 2 Physical Education.
