What will be in the course?

Environmental Futures is a contemporary course which will prepare students for an uncertain future and equip them with the skills and knowledge to help solve the ‘wicked problems’ facing not only Australia, but the world. Students will enjoy learning outside the classroom through fieldwork trips and guest speaker programs.

Students will explore environmental features and functions that support all life, the major challenges to their sustainability, and the environmental world views that influence how people perceive and respond to these challenges. Students will evaluate the economic value of natural environments such as the Great Barrier Reef and the Amazon Rainforest, as well as the strategies in place to protect them.

Students will learn about current and future challenges to resource management, including renewable technologies, and use critical thinking and problem-solving skills to analyse the extent of their usefulness in the Asia Pacific region.

Data literacy is an integral part of this course, and students will gain skills in gathering, manipulating, presenting, and analysing data using technology.

Year 10 Environmental Futures is an excellent choice for students who wish to study Geography, Biology, or Outdoor Education in Years 11 and 12.
