Sport: Senior & Middle School, Term 4 Week 4 2026
Pulteney’s summer sport season is well underway, and it is pleasing to see our students proudly wearing the Navy Blue and representing the School across their chosen sports.
Whether competing on the court, field or in the pool, our students continue to demonstrate enthusiasm, commitment and a genuine enjoyment of being part of their teams. It is also a great opportunity to see the camaraderie that develops through sport, as students support one another, build friendships and represent Pulteney with pride.
We wish all our teams and individual competitors continued success throughout the summer season.

Pulteney Volleyballers Shine at Australian Youth Volleyball Championships
Congratulations to four of our Pulteney students who recently represented South Australia at the Australian Youth Volleyball Championships (AYVC), competing against some of the best young volleyballers from across the country.
Year 9 student Scarlett L enjoyed an outstanding tournament, helping her South Australian team secure a silver medal, while Year 11 student Kingston G also achieved national success, bringing home a bronze medal.
Both results are fantastic achievements and reflect the dedication, hard work and commitment these students have shown towards their volleyball development.
We would also like to congratulate Year 8 students Delaney G and Freddie M, who represented South Australia at the championships. Competing at a national level is an incredible opportunity, and both students gained valuable experience testing themselves against some of Australia’s best emerging volleyball talent.
To have four Pulteney students competing at this level is a fantastic achievement and a reflection of the continued growth of volleyball at the school.
A huge congratulations to Scarlett, Kingston, Delaney and Freddie on their selection and performances. We look forward to following their continued success in the years ahead!

Badminton
Open A2 Div 2
This week again we came across a tough opponent in St John’s. While a few of the matches were quite close, unfortunately we could not register a win. Great effort and fighting spirit shown by all team members.
Coach: Alice Cheung
Middle A2 Div 2
Following up from their win last week, our Mid A’s almost made it back to back but fell just short going down 4-5. There were many close matches that went all the way with Lana and Raynee narrowing edging out their opponents in doubles in 3 rubber sets while Zachary and Cameron had strong singles performances.
Coach: Alice Cheung
Middle B2 Div 2
Our team this week recorded a convincing 6-3 victory making it back to back two weeks in a row. With Justin Z and Hannah leading the way recording wins in their singles matches and again pairing up in doubles for a great match. Everyone showed great enthusiasm and teamwork on and off court.
Coach: Alice Cheung, Anh Pham and Robbin Wang
Basketball
It was another fantastic week for our Girls Basketball program, with all three Middle School teams taking on Wilderness and two more impressive victories to celebrate.
Our Middle C team produced a dominant performance, securing a convincing 32–8 victory over Wilderness. With only five players available, the girls showed tremendous effort and determination, working hard throughout the entire match without the luxury of substitutions. It was a fantastic team performance and another encouraging result for this developing group.
Our Middle B team faced a tough challenge against a strong Wilderness side, going down 27–12. With three new players stepping in to fill out the team, it was always going to be a challenge, but the girls embraced the opportunity and continued to compete throughout. It was great to see students willing to step up and help their teammates, gaining valuable experience along the way.
Our Middle A team continued their impressive start to the season with another gutsy performance, securing a hard-fought 27–23 victory over Wilderness. In a closely contested match, the girls showed fantastic determination to come away with the win, making it two consecutive victories for our newly established Middle A team.
It has been particularly pleasing to see the success of our Middle A girls, who have played such an important role in rebuilding the Girls Basketball program at Pulteney. After nearly six years without a Middle A team, seeing this group not only compete but win against quality opposition is a fantastic achievement and a reflection of their commitment over the past few years.
Overall, another very positive week for our Girls Basketball program, with plenty of enthusiasm, teamwork and continued development across all three teams!

Cricket - Girls'
PGS 6/43 def by ST Peters Girls 3/100
The girls came up against a tough opposition in St Peters Girls, and unfortunately were not able to walk away with a win. Tilly Williams batted with positive intent, scoring 9 before being retired. Mary Butcher also protected her wicket well, staying in the centre for a long time, and helping us towards our total of 43. We had a few run outs, but this is bound to happen when the girls are taking more risks with their running between wickets and pushing the fielding team. We will continue to work on this aspect of our game, but the positive intent shown by our batters will hold us in good stead moving forward.
With several new and very welcome additions to the team this week, we had fielders rotating on and off the field during our bowling innings. The pick of the bowlers were Maddison Bryant and Tilly Williams who both picked up wickets. Tilly was also excellent behind the stumps before handing the gloves over the Maggie Bedson who also did a wonderful job, particularly as she is very new to the team. Harriet Savage impressed with a run out and, as always, the positivity amongst the girls for the whole match was fantastic to see.

Cricket - 1st XI T20
Scotch College 7/125 (J Allen 3/19, J Bryant 1/7) def Pulteney 8/112 (C Martin, L Dal Cin, 18)
A well fought game from start to finish. Scotch got out the blocks early, racing to 0/25 off 3 overs, but an awesome run out by Max Ormsby opened the floodgates, and they were soon 4/50. Three wickets to Josh Allen led the attack, but a couple of dropped catches and leaked boundaries allowed Scotch to a slightly above-par total of 7/125.
Ollie Tripodi led the chase well to start, but when he fell for 15, the required run rate rose quickly. Connor Martin carried through the middle overs, ably supported by Max Ormsby. A late flurry of runs from Lorenzo Dal Cin made us dare to dream, but it was just a bridge to far, falling 13 runs short in the end.
Coach: Mr Ben Johnswood and Calvin Heath
Cricket - 2nd XI
The Pulteney 2nd XI went down to Immanuel in a competitive encounter, with Immanuel finishing on 134/5 to Pulteney’s 84/8.
With the ball, Dan S was the pick of the bowlers, taking 2/12, while Angus A (1/13) and Hamish B (1/17) also claimed wickets and kept the pressure on throughout the innings.
In reply, Oli D led the batting with a well-made 30, supported by Felix, who finished unbeaten on 18, Oscar S with 16, and Sam C with 10. Despite some promising partnerships, Pulteney fell short of the target.
A positive effort from the group, with plenty to build on as the season continues.

Volleyball - Boys'
Boys Volleyball
It was another fantastic Friday afternoon of volleyball, with all seven of our Boys Volleyball teams in action against Nazareth and Marryatville, recording four wins across the afternoon.
Our Senior A White team kicked things off with a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Nazareth, while our Senior B White team produced an impressive performance to secure a convincing 3–0 win. Our Middle B White team faced a tough challenge, going down 3–0, but continued to gain valuable match experience. This was a fantastic effort though, considering this team is made up of only year 6’s and due to some missing players, only had 5 players on Friday.
Against Marryatville, our Senior A Blue team put together a strong performance to claim a 2–0 victory, while our Senior B Blue team continued their excellent form with another dominant 3–0 win.
Our Middle A team was involved in a closely contested match, narrowly going down 2–1. The boys showed plenty of fight and were competitive throughout, with some encouraging signs as they continue to develop their game. Our Middle B Blue team also faced a tough challenge, going down 3–0.
Overall, it was a very positive afternoon for the program, with all four Senior teams recording victories. It has been particularly pleasing to see the continued development across our Middle School teams, with plenty of new players gaining valuable experience and growing in confidence each week.
We look forward to seeing all our teams continue building on these performances as we progress further into the term!

Girls Volleyball
It was another exciting Saturday morning of volleyball, with all four of our Girls Volleyball teams in action against Seymour and Concordia, producing some fantastic performances and plenty of encouraging signs across the program.
Our Senior B team was involved in a thrilling contest against Seymour, securing a hard-fought 2–1 victory. The highlight of the match was an incredible comeback in the second set, with the girls overcoming a 10-point deficit to fight their way back into the contest. It was a fantastic display of resilience and determination, showing the team’s willingness to compete even when the game isn’t going their way.
Our Middle A team also recorded an impressive 2–1 victory over Seymour. After a strong opening set, the girls were challenged in the second before responding with a dominant performance in the third, winning 25–6. It was a fantastic way to finish the match and highlighted the team’s continued growth and ability to take control of games.
Our Middle B team narrowly went down 2–1 against Seymour in another competitive match. Despite the result, there were plenty of positives to take away, with the girls continuing to build their confidence and develop their teamwork on court.
Against Concordia, our Middle C team went down 3–0, but the result certainly didn’t reflect the progress this group has been making. With several players new to volleyball, it has been particularly pleasing to see their development, especially following the recent Year 7 camp. The improvement in their skills, confidence and understanding of the game has been fantastic to watch, and there is plenty to look forward to with this group.
Overall, it was another positive weekend for our Girls Volleyball program, with two great victories and continued development across all four teams. It has been fantastic to see the enthusiasm and commitment from the girls as we move further into the term!

Murray Bridge Regatta – Saturday 31 October 2026
Pulteney Rowing made an excellent start to the 2026/27 regatta season at Murray Bridge on Saturday, with two race victories, numerous podium finishes and some very encouraging performances across our junior and senior crews.
The standout performance came from our Men’s Third Grade Eight, who came agonisingly close to defeating St Peter’s College, finishing just 0.36 seconds behind in one of the closest races of the day. St Peter’s crossed the line in 3:38.08, with Pulteney finishing in 3:38.44. The crew of J. Bollinger, L. Bedson, E. Kennison, M. Relf-Christopher, A. Tan, C. Williamson, C. Fenton and A. Smith, coxed by M. Cannon and coached by old scholars Brooklyn Selway and Bill Darker, produced an outstanding performance. To finish less than half a second behind St Peter’s is a tremendous achievement and demonstrates the progress being made within our boys’ rowing programme.
Another highlight was the Intermediate Boys’ Coxed Quad Scull, with A. Tan, E. Kennison, L. Bedson and J. Bollinger, coxed by L. Ying-Papps, winning their division in 5:50.33. The boys finished an impressive 19 seconds ahead of St Peter’s College, with Prince Alfred College third. This was an excellent result for a crew that has been working hard throughout pre-season.
In the Open Women’s Double Scull, L. Darker and C. Staniszewski also secured a first-place finish, adding another victory to Pulteney’s results.
Our junior crews produced several pleasing performances. The Junior Boys’ Coxed Quad Scull of L.Ying-Papps (Inv) A. Zhang, H. Irizarry and A. Adams, coxed by H. Ingrames, finished second behind Norwood International High School, ahead of Pembroke School. Our second crew, comprising C.Li (Inv) A. Brown, T. Karagiannis and P. Vivlios, coxed by H. Tolfts, finished fifth, gaining valuable racing experience.
The Novice Women’s Coxed Quad Scull was another highlight, with H. Price, A. Kapaniris, H. Lyttle and F. Hall, coxed by T. Darling, finishing second, just 6.21 seconds behind Murray Bridge. The crew continued their strong form later in the day, finishing second in the Third Grade Women’s Coxed Quad Scull.
Our second novice women’s crew of E. Atterton, E. Smith, P. Munt and C. Staniszewski, coxed by M. Cannon, finished third. The crew also competed in the Third Grade Women’s Coxed Quad, with A. Johnson joining P. Munt, E. Smith and E. Atterton, finishing sixth in their division.
There were also several strong performances in the smaller boats:
- Third Grade Men’s Single Scull: Kennison finished second, just 2.83 seconds behind the winner from Adelaide High School.
- Third Grade Men’s Double Scull: Ying-Papps and M. Relf-Christopher finished second, ahead of Norwood International High School. E. Kennison and L. Bedson finished fourth, with A. Tan and J. Bollinger fifth in the same division.
- Third Grade Women’s Double Scull: Lyttle and F. Hall finished second behind Murray Bridge, adding another podium finish to their successful day.
- Third Grade Men’s Coxed Quad Scull: Chabrel, J. Hutchinson, L. Ying-Papps and A. Tan, coxed by H. Tolfts, finished second in their division.
- Third Grade Mixed Coxed Quad Scull: Johnson, L. Darker, C. Williamson and C. Fenton, coxed by C. Staniszewski, finished third, just 0.47 seconds behind the second-placed Murray Bridge crew.
- Second Grade Men’s Coxed Four: Relf-Christopher, C. Williamson, C. Fenton and A. Smith, coxed by L. Darker, finished third behind two Prince Alfred College crews.
- Second Grade Men’s Single Scull: Relf-Christopher finished third in his division.
- Third Grade Women’s Single Scull: Johnson finished third in her division.
- School Mixed Coxed Quad Scull: Jarmer, C. Staniszewski, L. Darker and A. Brown, coxed by C. Li, finished fourth in a competitive field.
- Third Grade Men’s Double Scull, Division 2: Chabrel and J. Hutchinson finished fourth, gaining further experience in the smaller boats.
It was particularly pleasing to see so many of our rowers competing in multiple events, often moving between eights, quads, doubles and singles throughout the day. This versatility is an important part of developing confident, capable rowers and building depth within the programme.
The results reflect the hard work being put in by our athletes and coaches. While victories and podium finishes are always rewarding, the most encouraging aspect was the competitiveness of our crews and the progress they have made since the beginning of pre-season. Congratulations to all our rowers and coaches on a very positive start to the season.
Go the Navy Blues!
