Cricket - Girls'

Pulteney 3/77 defeated Seymour College 6/46

The Pulteney girls got off to a great start this week with a win against Seymour College. Victoria Staniszewski joined the team for her first match and was a wonderful addition to the group. The team started the match well with some fantastic bowling by Tilly Boucher who ended with two wickets. All of our girls bowled well with special mentions to Irene Adack, Harriet Savage and Isla Cross who all took wickets. Both Tilly Boucher and Tilly Williams took on the keeping role and were both very tidy behind the stumps. Special mention to Madison Bryant for her amazing enthusiasm and support in the field.

When it came to batting, Tilly Boucher put on a clinic. She very quickly compiled her runs to be retired on 26. She was well supported by our other batters. In particular, Tilly Williams was impressive, scoring 16 before she was retired. What was so impressive was the running between wickets by the batters to ensure that we kept our run rate ticking over.

This was a fantastic start by the team and we are looking forward to a really positive term.

Cricket - 1st XI T20

Westminster 2/196 (Ormsby 1/24, Rees 1/24) Defeated Pulteney (Allen 22, McClurg 15)

Max Ormsby got us off to a fast start with a wicket in the first over, but two massive partnerships, including an imperious century from the opener, carried Westminster to an imposing 196. Harrison Rees was the other bowler deserving of credit for his 1/24.

Josh Allen got us off to a rapid start with his 22 off 16, and Will McClurg picked up the mantle from him, but their dismissals snuffed out any chance of a miracle. From 9/72, Jono Newman and Zac Holman

Cricket - 1st XI

Pulteney 8/129 (Raphael Storer 58, Jonathan Newman 30) defeated Sacred Heart 8/75 (Angus Glasson 4/22 (5), Josh Bryant 2/5 (4)

A fantastic start to the Saturday morning season for the 1st XI with a well fought win over Sacred Heart.

We looked in trouble early at 3/22, before an exemplary partnership from Jono Newman and Rafi Storer. They steadied the ship with watchful batting and good running, before finding the boundaries to put on 82 for the fourth wicket. Storer carried on for a richly deserved maiden half century.

Chasing 129 Sacred Heart made a good start, but an outstanding spell from Gus Glasson put Pulteney in the driver’s seat. His bravery to pitch the ball up despite batting agression was rewarded with four wickets. Josh Bryant then came on to clean up the tail with a miserly 2/5 off four overs.

A great team win!

Coach: Mr Calvin Heath

Cricket - 2nd XI

Immanuel 6/146 defeated Pulteney 70 (James Button 18, Cooper Donald 10).

It was wonderful to have 13 players available, including Year 10 debutants Hamish Beaven, Felix Shepherd and Alex Wehner.

Lachlan Hall led the bowling attack with two impressive spells of fast bowling at either end of the innings. He was well supported in the field, with Pat Perry making some valuable contributions and Oscar Sutton and Oli Durkin both producing direct-hit run-outs. Improving our bowling discipline will be a focus at training after conceding 24 wides.

Against a quality bowling attack, we recovered from a challenging start at 5/12 to finish on 12/70, with James Button and Cooper Donald both playing impressive innings. Thank you to Immanuel for generously allowing all 13 of our players the opportunity to bat.

Coach: John Taylor and Mitch Yeates

Cricket - Year 8/9 Boys'

Pulteney 8/9 Boys Cricket 3/132 (20) def St. Ignatius College 6/121 (20)

The team made a strong start to Term 4 with an impressive win over St Ignatius. Batting first, Ilan Storer and Ollie Tripodi provided a solid foundation, with Ilan contributing 14 runs. Ollie went on to retire unbeaten on 53, sharing a valuable partnership with Jimmy Taylor, who finished unbeaten on 35. A handy late contribution of 10 not out from Rory Shephard helped the team post a strong total.

Seb Llewellyn led the way with the ball, claiming two wickets in his opening spell. St Ignatius built momentum before Ollie secured a crucial breakthrough. Despite a few missed chances and having only eight fielders at times, the team maintained its energy and worked hard in the field. Jimmy then claimed three wickets in the closing overs to seal a well-earned victory.

The team looks forward to building on this positive start through continued effort at training and in the matches ahead.

Cricket - Year 7/8 Boys'

Pulteney 7/8 Boys Cricket 6/85 (20) tied with Concordia 7/85 (20)

The Years 7/8 cricket team opened its season with an exciting home match against Concordia. With several players unavailable due to injury, captains Max Llewellyn and Lewis Fitzsimmons elected to bowl first. Standout performances from Harvey Allen and Percy Stanley helped restrict Concordia to 7/85 from their 20 overs.

Our run chase began aggressively, but regular wickets left the team in a challenging position at 4/30. An outstanding partnership between Lewis Fitzsimons and Thomas Kelly steadied the innings, bringing the target within reach with 11 runs needed from the final three overs.

After Lewis and Thomas retired unbeaten upon facing their allotted deliveries, James Pulford and Julian Gorayski continued the chase. James showed great determination before being run out attempting a quick single, with Lewis suffering a similar fate after returning to the crease. With the result resting on the final delivery, Thomas and Julian scrambled a bye to secure a thrilling tie.

A special thank you to Head of Cricket, Ben Johnswood, for stepping in to coach the team in Nick Restas’ absence. The players benefited greatly from his knowledge and guidance.

At training this week, the team will focus on shot selection and respecting good deliveries as they prepare to face St Ignatius next weekend.

Coach: Zach Parish

Tennis

Division 1 Girls'

The Division 1 girls made an outstanding start to the season, recording a convincing six-sets-to-three win with impressive performances across the team.

The doubles matches were highly competitive, with two contests lasting close to an hour. Lucy Leyden and Ellouise Dodd delivered a dominant 6–0 victory, helping put Pulteney in a strong position heading into the singles.

The team continued to compete strongly in the singles, winning four of the six matches. A special mention goes to Year 7 student Stella Catenacci Cavalcante, who secured an impressive 6–3 win in the number one position.

Excellent attitude and enthusiastic support for teammates were highlights of a positive morning of tennis. The girls can take plenty of confidence from this performance as they build on their strong start in the coming weeks.

Division 3 Girls'

Our Division 3 team enjoyed an outstanding 9–0 victory, finishing ahead 52–11 in games. Louisa and Anica, Claudia and Lucy J, and Tabitha and Marie all recorded doubles wins. Louisa, Lucy J, Gloria and Irene followed with strong singles victories, while Tabitha and Marie received forfeits.

The positive attitude across both teams was particularly pleasing, with the girls supporting one another and showing resilience to fight back during matches. Congratulations to all players on an encouraging start to the term!

Coach: Will Evans and Holly Rawson

Middle A Tennis

Our Middle A tennis team showed determination against a strong Mercedes side, with the 0–9 result not fully reflecting the competitive tennis played throughout the morning.

Following a delayed start, the boys gradually found their rhythm in the doubles. William and Hudson claimed two games in the top pairing, while Massimo and Benson secured three games in an encouraging performance.

In the singles, William demonstrated patience and persistence in a lengthy contest, playing some excellent tennis despite the 0–6 scoreline. Wesley earned two games at number three, while Michael showed great commitment in a match that continued well beyond midday.

Despite a challenging morning, the boys maintained a positive attitude and embraced the opportunity to compete. There were encouraging signs of improvement since Term 1, providing a solid foundation to build on in the weeks ahead.

Coach: Finn Evans

Open A Tennis

Pulteney’s Open A tennis team began Term 4 in impressive fashion, recording a convincing 8–1 victory over Mercedes on Saturday 17 October in near-perfect conditions.

Sophia Haddock (Year 7) and Ava Moukachar (Year 9) set the tone with a composed 6–3 doubles win, while Harry Hockley (Year 12) and new recruit Niki Karasoulos (Year 9) combined strongly to claim their match 6–1. Tilly Boucher and Matilda Schubert (both Year 12) showed determination to recover from a significant deficit and secure a 6–4 victory—their first win as a doubles pairing this year.

Carrying a clean sweep of the doubles into the singles, Pulteney maintained its momentum, winning five of the six remaining sets. Sophia, Ava, Harry, Niki and Matilda all recorded singles victories, highlighting the strength and depth of the team.

The team will look to build on this encouraging start when it faces St Peter’s College Open A2 White at their courts this coming Saturday.

Coach: Thomas Slattery

Open B Tennis

The Open B tennis team began the season with a determined performance, going down 3–6 in a competitive opening-round encounter. Despite the result, there were plenty of positives, with players showing encouraging teamwork and effort.

Sam Firth and Ben Vasilunas combined well to secure a 6–3 doubles victory, while Tommy Jarmer and Inesh Chauhan also made a strong start, winning 6–2. Francesca Ceravolo and Matilda Skinner worked hard in their doubles match but fell short, 2–6.

Inesh delivered a standout debut, backing up the doubles win with a hard-fought 7–5 singles victory. While the remaining singles matches went the opposition’s way, the team showed determination throughout.

With further match practice and a focus on refining their skills at training, the players will look to build on this promising start in the weeks ahead.

Coach: Gavin Zhang

Volleyball

Volleyball - Boys'

It was great to see so many new and returning faces on the court as our Boys Volleyball teams kicked off their Term 4 season.

Our Senior A Blue and Senior B Blue teams started the term strongly, both recording convincing 3–0 victories over Pembroke. It was a fantastic start for both sides and a great reward for their efforts.

While the remaining teams were unable to secure a win, there were plenty of positives to take away from their performances. Our Senior A White team pushed Immanuel in a competitive 2–1 loss, while our Middle A, Middle B Blue, Senior B White and Middle B White teams all showed encouraging signs against strong opposition.

Despite the results, it was pleasing to see how competitive our teams were throughout their matches, particularly with so many new players joining the program this term. There is plenty to build on as the boys continue to develop their skills, confidence and teamwork over the coming weeks.

We look forward to another great term of volleyball!

Volleyball - Girls'

It was a great start to Term 4 for our Girls Volleyball program, with plenty of positive performances across our teams.

Our Middle A team started the season strongly with a dominant 3–0 victory over Wilderness. The girls controlled the match throughout, providing a great opportunity for players to experience different positions and continue developing their all-round skills.

Our Middle B team also recorded an impressive 3–0 victory over Wilderness. Despite having only three regular players available and requiring some fill-ins, the girls worked well together and applied excellent service pressure to secure the win.

Our Middle C team faced a tough challenge against Wilderness, going down 3–0. With plenty of new faces in the team, there were some encouraging signs, particularly as their serving improved throughout the match. With a little more consistency and continued development, this is certainly a group to keep an eye on in the future.

Congratulations

Ava Moukachar State Finalist U16 Girls

A huge congratulations to Ava (Year 9), who won the State Under 16 Girls tennis final over the weekend!

Ava has shown tremendous dedication to her tennis, and it’s wonderful to see her hard work paying off.

Well done, Ava!

Basketball

It has been fantastic to see so many students return to the court as our Boys Basketball skills sessions get underway for Term 4.

With the winter season now behind us, these sessions provide a great opportunity for students to continue developing their individual skills in preparation for the 2027 season. The focus is on improving fundamental skills, building confidence and providing opportunities for players across different year levels to train and develop together.

It has been particularly pleasing to see the enthusiasm and commitment from students, with plenty of positive energy on the court as we look to continue building our basketball program.

National Basketball Success – Zed R

During the school holidays, Year 7 student Zed R travelled to Perth with his Under 14 Division 1 Norwood Flames team to compete in the Foot Locker Club Nationals.

The seven-day tournament brought together 24 of the best club teams from across Australia, with the top three teams from each state qualifying for the competition.

Competing against some of the country’s best young basketball talent, Zed and his Norwood Flames teammates produced an outstanding result, finishing fifth in Australia. It was also a fantastic tournament for South Australian basketball, with all three qualifying SA teams finishing inside the top seven.

Zed thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to compete at an elite level against some of the best players in his age group, gaining valuable experience along the way.

A huge congratulations to Zed and his teammates on this fantastic achievement. It is always great to see our Pulteney students representing their clubs and competing at such a high level outside of school sport!

Swim Test and Capsize Drill Report

Saturday 17 October 2026 – PAC Red Centre

On Saturday 17 October, Pulteney Rowing conducted a swim test and capsize drill at the PAC Red Centre as part of the programme’s ongoing commitment to rowing safety.

The session provided rowers with the opportunity to demonstrate their swimming ability and, importantly, to develop the practical skills required to respond safely in the event of a capsize. Each rower completed a 50-metre swim test before taking part in practical capsize training using single sculls in the pool.

During the capsize component, rowers were instructed in the correct procedures to follow after capsizing, including remaining with the boat, righting the scull and safely climbing back into it. Conducting the training in a controlled pool environment allowed coaches to work closely with the rowers and ensure that each student could practise these skills safely.

The session was particularly valuable for our younger and less experienced rowers, many of whom had not previously had the opportunity to practise a capsize and re-entry in a controlled environment. It also provided an opportunity to reinforce these important safety procedures with our more experienced rowers.

Capsize and swimming competency are important components of rowing safety and form part of the requirements being implemented across school rowing programmes in South Australia. The session will also assist coaches in identifying any rowers who may require further instruction or support before rowing independently in small boats.

Thank you to the coaches who assisted with the session and to the rowers and families who supported this important safety initiative.

Head of Rowing
