Strength and Conditioning sessions

Our athletes who have been participating in the recent gym program over the past 3 months, have been doing an incredible job, and from a Cross-Country season perspective, these runners have shown massive improvements from holding posture, and form in the latter stages of their running, when fatigued. The gym training has complimented the track training nicely.

Whilst we keep the strength relative to the sports they participate in, there is a universal manner in how we have been continuing our strength phases, with a more of an eccentric (lengthening movement) focus in recent times, and continuing with correct joint movement, into end position. Along with core strength, and accessory exercises. Whilst utilising other exercises focusing on creating, absorbing and releasing force in an ‘explosive’ manner.

Both Josh and I enjoy the time spent educating the group in gym etiquette and practices, and hope the athletes are enjoying their experience.

For the upcoming school holidays in late September/early October, we are looking at putting gym sessions in place over that two-week school break. Please confirm the sessions/dates that you would commit to attend, if you are interested in participating over this period:

1st week:

Tuesday, 29th September = 3pm – 4.30pm
Thursday, 1st October = 3pm – 4.30pm

2nd week:

Tuesday, 6th October = 3pm – 4.30pm
Thursday, 8th October = 3pm – 4.30pm

**or please advise if not interested, or able to attend over the school holiday break.

Please advise Shane Danaher, or Josh Lasscock before cob on Friday 28 August 2026, and we will be able to advise the sessions going ahead from the proposed dates/times above.

We will advise of confirmed sessions based on numbers by the week ending, Thursday 10 September 2026, to provide more than enough time to confirm relevant information in a prompt timeframe.

U15 Boys Claim SAVL Gold

Congratulations to our U15 Boys team, who claimed a gold medal in the SAVL Volleyball Competition on Friday night.

The boys were reduced to just six players heading into the Grand Final, but stepped up brilliantly when it mattered most. In a tightly contested match that went all the way to a fifth set, the team showed tremendous composure and resilience to secure the win.

Trailing 12–9 in the deciding set, the boys fought their way back to level the score before holding their nerve to finish the match 15–13 and claim the gold medal.

Flynn DW was deservedly awarded Man of the Match, finishing the Grand Final with a fantastic service run when the team needed it most.

A fantastic effort from the entire group and a great reward for the work they have put in throughout the season. Congratulations, boys!

The boys have shown so much improvement this season and all players have bought in to the style of play from coach Leo. To finish 1st overall in their division and age groups against the best club teams in the state is a great result, not only for the boys, but for the program overall.

Thanks as well to coach Charlie and the other support that turned out on the night.

Year 11/12 Girls Finish 5th in the State

After our Year 11/12 Girls progressed through to the finals of the Division 1 Statewide Schools Cup Volleyball Competition, we knew we were in for a challenging day against some of the strongest school volleyball teams in the state.

The girls started the day fantastically, taking the opening set against Reynella East and showing that they were more than capable of competing at this level. Despite losing momentum in the second set and ultimately dropping the game, the girls continued to fight and came up against a very strong Brighton side in their second match. Brighton demonstrated the difference at the top end of the competition, with our girls unable to match their level of skill and consistency.

This set up a final match against Paralowie for 5th and 6th place. The girls started strongly again, taking an early lead after a convincing first set. Paralowie responded in the second, forcing a deciding third set. With the result on the line, our girls held their composure and were able to finish strongly to take the win and 5th place overall in the state.

Finishing 5th in Division 1 across the state is a fantastic achievement and a great reflection of the progress this group has made throughout the season.

A huge thank you to Coach Matt for his guidance and support throughout the process, and congratulations to our Year 12 students Maya, Imogen, Holly, Tilly and Matilda, who played their final game for Pulteney. We also thank Grace and Lulu for their contribution throughout the lead-up games.

A special mention to Eloise (Year 11), Verity and Scarlett (Year 9), who stepped up when it mattered most and played an important role in helping the team achieve this result.

Congratulations to the entire group on a fantastic campaign and a well-deserved 5th-place finish in the state.

Rowing

Pulteney Rowing – A Strong Week on the Water

It was fantastic to see strong attendance across the Pulteney Rowing Programme in our second week of pre-season training, with our Junior rowers training from the Pulteney Torrens Boathouse and our Intermediate and Senior rowers taking to the water at West Lakes on the weekend.

Our Year 7 and Year 8 crews enjoyed a productive morning on the Torrens, continuing to develop their skills, confidence and teamwork. The girls’ quads are making excellent progress, with each session bringing improvements in timing, rhythm and boat control as the crews become increasingly comfortable rowing together.

There was also some great work in the single sculls. Abby Johnson and Albert Zhang were among those developing their individual technique and boat-handling skills. Sculling provides an excellent opportunity for our rowers to develop their feel for the boat, and it has been particularly pleasing to see students becoming increasingly confident and independent on the water.

Just as importantly, the teamwork continued back at the boathouse. Rowing requires everyone to contribute, whether carrying and preparing boats, looking after equipment or helping other crews get on and off the water. Lucas Sheya was one of many students getting involved with the work around the boatshed, demonstrating that being part of a rowing programme extends well beyond the time spent on the water.

At West Lakes, our Intermediate and Senior rowers completed two strong sessions, with a focus on both small-boat development and crew rowing. The first session saw athletes working in pairs and doubles, including Charlie Roberts and Chase Fenton in the pair, providing an opportunity to develop individual responsibility, technical precision and boat-moving skills. Jake Hutchinson and Jonathan Chabrel worked on their combination in the double scull.

In the second session, the group moved into fours and quads, transferring the work from the smaller boats into the larger crew boats and focusing on rhythm, timing and working effectively together. Moving between small boats and larger crews is an important part of developing well-rounded rowers and provides a strong technical foundation for the season ahead.

The strong attendance and positive atmosphere across both venues were a great reflection of the progress being made throughout the programme. It was particularly pleasing to see so many students enjoying their rowing and embracing the opportunity to learn, improve and support one another.

Thank you to our coaches for their continued enthusiasm and commitment, and to our families for supporting the programme each week. There is a great deal of positive momentum building at Pulteney Rowing, and we look forward to carrying this into the remainder of the term and the season ahead.
