Athletics

A special mention to Alex B who participated in the Australian Athletics Cross Country Championships in Ballarat last week. In very muddy conditions Alex came 75th for his age in Australia.

In addition to this Alex also competed at the Austriathlon state championships where he took the bronze medal.

An amazing year it continues to be for Alex, well done!

Strength and Conditioning sessions

Our athletes who have been participating in the recent gym program over the past 3 months, have been doing an incredible job, and from a Cross-Country season perspective, these runners have shown massive improvements from holding posture, and form in the latter stages of their running, when fatigued. The gym training has complimented the track training nicely.

Whilst we keep the strength relative to the sports they participate in, there is a universal manner in how we have been continuing our strength phases, with a more of an eccentric (lengthening movement) focus in recent times, and continuing with correct joint movement, into end position. Along with core strength, and accessory exercises. Whilst utilising other exercises focusing on creating, absorbing and releasing force in an ‘explosive’ manner.

Both Josh and I enjoy the time spent educating the group in gym etiquette and practices, and hope the athletes are enjoying their experience.

For the upcoming school holidays in late September/early October, we are looking at putting gym sessions in place over that two-week school break. Please confirm the sessions/dates that you would commit to attend, if you are interested in participating over this period:

1st week:

Tuesday, 29th September : 3pm – 4.30pm
Thursday, 1st October : 3pm – 4.30pm

2nd week:

Tuesday, 6th October : 3pm – 4.30pm
Thursday, 8th October : 3pm – 4.30pm

**or please advise if not interested, or able to attend over the school holiday break.

Please advise Shane Danaher, or Josh Lasscock before cob on Friday, 28th August 2026, and we will be able to advise the sessions going ahead from the proposed dates/times above.

We will advise of confirmed sessions based on numbers by the week ending, Thursday, 10th September 2026, to provide more than enough time to confirm relevant information in a prompt timeframe.

Volleyball

Friday night saw another round of Volleyball SAVL Junior competition, with several strong performances as we move towards the finals stage of the season.

The U15 Boys 1 continued their strong form with a convincing 3–0 victory, while the U17 Boys 1 were involved in a close contest, going down 1–2.

The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the U17 Girls 1, who produced their best game of the season when it mattered most. With a place in the finals on the line, the girls worked incredibly hard for each other and showed great support throughout the match. Scarlett M produced some outstanding defensive plays, while Eloise C put significant pressure on the opposition with her serving. The team showed tremendous resilience to save their best performance until the final round and secure their place in the finals.

The U15 Girls 1 faced a challenging night, going down 0–3, but will take plenty of opportunities to learn and develop from the experience.

Both U19 Boys 1 and 2 and U19 Girls 1 had byes this round.

With finals now approaching, six of our seven teams have qualified for the finals, which is an incredible achievement for the program. After having just two teams make finals last year, the progress across the program this season has been outstanding and is a testament to the commitment of our players and coaches.

We look forward to seeing all six teams finish the season strongly and compete for finals success.

Rowing

SA Schools Virtual Indoor Rowing Challenge

Last week, Pulteney competed in the SA Schools Virtual Indoor Rowing Challenge, bringing the Pulteney Winter Rowing Programme to a successful conclusion.

Fourteen Pulteney rowers took part, producing 27 individual performances and rowing a combined distance of 37,300 metres. The team worked hard throughout the challenge, steadily overtaking a number of the early leaders to finish an impressive 3rd overall in South Australia.

It was a fantastic team effort and a fitting way to conclude a highly successful winter rowing programme.

An Oarsome Experience – Come and Try Rowing!

Saturday 5 September | 8.00am–11.00am

This Saturday marks our first on-water session of the 2026–27 rowing season, and all Pulteney rowers are invited to bring a friend and give rowing a try!

Join us at the Pulteney West Lakes Boathouse (Rowing SA), 100 Military Road, from 8.00am–11.00am for a morning on the water, followed by a free BBQ and season presentation.

Welcome to Nicki Plucinski

We are delighted to welcome Nicki Plucinski to Pulteney as our Lead Girls’ Rowing Coach.

Nicki brings a wealth of experience to the programme as a national champion rower and gold medal-winning coach at school and state level. She is looking forward to working with our rowers and coaches to continue developing a strong and successful girls’ rowing programme at Pulteney.

Our Senior Girls’ squad is currently looking for additional rowers in Years 10 and 11. No previous rowing experience is necessary, so this Saturday is the perfect opportunity to come along, meet the squad and give rowing a try.
