Sport: Senior & Middle School, Term 3 Week 5 2026
This week got off to a buzzing start as we welcomed St John’s Grammar for the annual Captain’s Lunch, officially kicking off Intercol Week. We’re now looking forward to seeing our Pulteney sporting teams take to the ovals, courts and fields tonight at St John’s, before the action continues on home soil this Thursday.
I know our students will give their all this week, with the passion, pride and Navy Blue Spirit they bring to Intercol second to none. The opportunity to have Pulteney’s name etched onto the individual plaques and overall shield is a huge motivator, and we can’t wait to see what our teams can achieve. We wish every Pulteney team the very best for a fantastic week of competition!
Pulteney Volleyball has plenty to celebrate following its most successful South Australian Volleyball Schools Cup (SAVSC) campaign in the program’s 10-year history. With eight teams representing the School, it was fantastic to see our players’ hard work, growth and team spirit rewarded with three gold medals and one silver. For a complete write-up see the volleyball results below.

Athletics
Some great returns from the committed training by the Athletics and Cross-Country teams so far during the year. Last week the Primary Team had the SAPSASA Track and Field District Champs, and there were some awesome results, whilst earlier in the week, the Cross-Country team had the SAAS Relay Champs.
From the SAPSASA Track and Field Champs, a huge well done to Alan Chen, who was the quickest 100m heat winner, and therefore achieved a 1st place in the 12yo 100m event. This provides Alan with the opportunity to reach the next stage, the SAPSASA State Track and Field Champs, which occurs on Thursday, 2nd September 2026. We’ll keep working on this event in the lead up to continue the improvement already shown.
Also, other top three placing results included, Millie Vidic who placed 2nd in both the 12yo 1500m and 800m events, which might get her to the next stage, whilst Jumela Jiang also finished 2nd place in the 12yo 200m event. Klara Walton in the 10yo Shot Put and Discus events, she placed 3rd in each, and was a great effort for her initial Track and Field event. The other 3rd place result was achieved by Emma Starr in the 200m event. This is a big thing for the 10yo’s, with usually a lot of nerves, so some great results.
The 10yo relay team also finished 3rd place, again a great achievement in that age group, which included Klara Walton, Zoe Papagiris, Mila Woods and Emma Starr.
During the week, we also had the SAAS Cross Country Relay Champs, which was run in perfect Cross country conditions, lots of mud!! There were a few 4th place results from the teams, which were good, consistent results against high class runners. The massive result being the Senior Girl’s team winning the Gold Medal. The team competed in the Senior Girl’s race, as we had Ellouise Dodd who is the senior girl. To make the team work, we included middle year girls, who included Harriet Savage (Yr 8), Maggie Bedson (Yr 8) and Tilly Williams (Yr 9). Well done the girls on that result, with a special mention to Maggie Bedson, who has showed great improvements in her running, from her commitment on the track, whilst consistent gym sessions over the winter season have complimented the track training perfectly.
Well done to all who competed, which helped them gain further experience in a race setting, to provide them goals to continue working on over the training ahead.

Pulteney Grammar School Volleyball | SAVSC 2026
The South Australian Volleyball Schools Cup (SAVSC) provided an outstanding three days of competition for Pulteney Volleyball, with eight teams representing the school from 13–16 August.
Across the tournament, our teams demonstrated the growth, resilience and competitiveness that have become hallmarks of the program, culminating in three gold medals and one silver medal – our most successful SAVSC campaign since first entering the competition 10 years ago.
Year 12 Boys – Division 1 GOLD
A dominant tournament from the Year 12 boys saw them defeat Casuarina 2–0 in the Grand Final. The boys played some of their best volleyball of the year across the weekend, allowing very little opportunity for their opponents to settle. They dropped just two sets throughout the tournament, with Kingston G providing a standout offensive performance and averaging 20 kills per game.
Year 10 Boys – Division 1 GOLD
The Year 10 boys completed a remarkable undefeated tournament, winning every set they played on their way to gold. After a dominant 2–0 semi-final victory over Thomas Moore College, they defeated Endeavour 2–0 in the Grand Final. Despite facing bigger hitters and blockers than they had encountered earlier in the tournament, the boys remained composed, stuck to their game plan and found ways to win. Their improvement from last year’s competition was particularly impressive, demonstrating greater maturity and an ability to play Pulteney volleyball regardless of the opposition.
Year 9 Girls – Division 1 GOLD
The Year 9 girls capped off an outstanding tournament with a 2–0 Grand Final victory over Brighton. After controlling the opening set 25–12 through some outstanding serving, they were challenged in the second before eventually winning 25–22. The girls finished the tournament undefeated and having dropped just one set, an exceptional performance from the group.
Year 12 Girls – Division 1 SILVER
The Year 12 girls fought their way through a challenging tournament to earn a place in the Division 1 Grand Final. Despite a tough 1–2 loss to Heathfield, the girls showed tremendous resilience throughout the weekend, winning several extremely close matches to earn their silver medal. Their ability to continue competing and find solutions under pressure was a highlight of their tournament.
There were also strong performances across our remaining teams.
The Year 11 Girls finished sixth following a closely contested playoff against Gleeson, with the third set finishing 23–25. Their improvement throughout the tournament was significant, culminating in what was arguably their best volleyball of the weekend. The group also successfully adapted to a single-setter rotation for the first time, demonstrating their ability to learn and respond to new challenges.
The Year 9 Division 2 Girls finished seventh after a 3–0 victory over Roma Mitchell, with strong serving runs and some excellent net play contributing to a controlled performance.
The Year 9 Division 2 Boys finished seventh following a competitive playoff against Hallett Cove. Despite momentum shifting during the match, the group showed considerable improvement throughout the tournament, with Cameron T providing strong leadership and the entire team continuing to develop across the three days.
Across all eight teams, the tournament provided valuable opportunities for our students to compete, learn and represent Pulteney with pride.
Three gold medals. One silver medal. Eight teams. One program.
A huge congratulations to all of our players and coaches on an outstanding SAVSC campaign. The final overall school result is still to be confirmed, but regardless of where we finish, this tournament represents a significant milestone for Pulteney Volleyball and reflects the continued growth of the program.
We couldn’t be prouder of the way our students represented the school.

Soccer 1st XI
Although the result had little impact on our league position, the match was highly significant for our preparation ahead of Intercol. Facing a team competing for the league title was always going to be a challenging task, but the boys handled the occasion impressively and were unfortunate to trail 2–0 at half-time.
After the break, the team responded strongly, scoring a well-deserved goal and controlling much of the second half. Two quick goals in the 65th and 68th minutes ultimately decided the contest, but the boys continued to work hard and were rewarded with a second goal late in the game.
This season has been defined by a series of memorable moments, and competing so strongly against one of the best teams in the league for 40 minutes was certainly another. The boys can be extremely proud of their second-half performance, which provided exactly the confidence and momentum we wanted heading into Intercol next week.
Soccer 2nd XI
The Second XI soccer team enjoyed a competitive season, finishing with three wins and four losses.
The highlight of the season was undoubtedly a thrilling 5–4 victory over rival school St John’s. In an exciting, end-to-end contest, the team secured the winning goal in the final 20 seconds, with German exchange student Martin scoring from a corner delivered by Tommy Jarmer in his final game for the team.
The season was unfortunately affected by several washouts and forfeits from opposing schools, making it difficult for the team to build consistency. Despite this, the boys displayed excellent school spirit and a highly competitive attitude throughout, playing with toughness, fairness and respect.
Overall, the season was filled with many positives, and we look forward to welcoming the boys back next year. Well done to all players, and a sincere thank you to the parents who assisted with running the line.
Coach: Luca Paolo
Soccer Middle A
The Middle A’s showed significant improvement throughout the season, remaining undefeated after the commencement of Term 3.
The boys demonstrated tremendous character, repeatedly fighting back from challenging positions throughout their matches. This was particularly evident in the final game of the season, when they trailed the top-of-the-table Unley by 7–1 at half-time before producing an outstanding comeback to level the scores at 8–8 by full-time.
Throughout the season, the team matured significantly and displayed strong leadership. The boys consistently stepped outside their comfort zones and supported one another whenever required.
Overall, it was a season to be proud of, and a wonderful group of boys should be congratulated on their efforts.
Coach: Lucas Michalos
Soccer Middle B Boys
The Middle School B Team had a great season, showing great levels of improvement as the season went on and displayed this through their teamwork and commitment throughout. The boys worked hard at training and games, supported each other and continued to develop their skills as the season went on. Despite a couple cancelled matches, it was great to see the team’s confidence and enthusiasm grow, and the boys can be very proud of their efforts this season.
Both Angus and I were really glad to coach the Middle School B team this season and we wanted to say thankyou for giving us the opportunity to coach them this season as it not only helped with our coaching skills but communication and leadership skills.
Regards and thanks for the season,
Coach: Wilson Lennox and Angus Baldock
Badminton
It was another wonderful winter season for our badminton girls who are just into the second year of the Winter program. I have been so impressed by how much everyone has improved, both individually and as a team throughout the entirety of the season. The girls showed great teamwork, encouraged and supported one another, and continued to give their best throughout all 10 rounds. Although we unfortunately went down in our final round against a very strong and challenging team, the girls should be incredibly proud of what they have achieved this season. Well done girls and thank you for making it such a rewarding season. Looking forward to you all returning next year!
Table Tennis
It was a very successful season for Pulteney Table Tennis, with the program fielding two teams which both finished top 3 in their respective divisions. A turnover of players saw opportunities for younger members of the program to assume leadership roles, which they did with great enthusiasm and success. A highlight of the season was the in-house-tournament, run through the last 3 weeks of training in the season. It was great to see the intensity that all the players brought, but in the end, it was Aaryan who secured the hardware with a strong win in a thrilling 3 set final. Thanks to the players for all their hard work this season, and the coaches for ensuring everything ran smoothly.
Looking forward to next year! Harry, Will and Nicholas.
Netball results
Senior C Netball
The Senior C team had a fantastic season, finishing on a high with a convincing 50 –13 win against Immanuel. The team came together quickly and developed a strong sense of belonging.
Each player contributed to creating an environment where everyone felt comfortable, supported and confident to give their best.
With only one loss across the entire season, the team consistently demonstrated determination, commitment and a desire to improve for which we could not be prouder.
Coach: Poppy Smith
Senior C Social Netball
The Senior Social girls wrapped up for the season last weekend, picking up a few wins along the way. This team has offered our Year 12 girls, who weren’t looking to commit to regular training, a relaxed and fun way to spend their final year playing netball together at Pulteney.
It has been a genuine pleasure to watch this team all season. Their enthusiasm, ability to keep their heads up and the relationships they have built with one another have made this season so special. Thank you to every player for making the most of your last year on court together.
Congratulations
A huge shout out to Year 8 Student Georgie Laing
Early this year, Georgie trialled for the Adelaide Thunderbirds Talent Academy. The program selects girls from five regions across the state (one metro and four country) to participate.
From these five groups, a top 20 is chosen for the Emerging Academy, bringing together outstanding netballers from across South Australia. Georgie was selected in this Emerging Academy, a significant achievement in her first eligible year to trial, especially as she only turned 14 last month.
Over the past four months, Georgie has completed four intensive sessions (11 am–4 pm on Sundays) alongside outstanding players and coaches. She has a two-day camp coming up on the October long weekend to wrap up the program. All members of the Emerging Squad also receive automatic second-round entry into the Under-17 State Trials in October.
