The Boys First XVIII had a bye. They play Blackfriars away on Wednesday 12 August.

Scotch started strongly, hitting the scoreboard twice in the opening five minutes and controlling territory early. For much of the first quarter, the ball remained in their forward half, but our backline held up well under pressure. Eva was particularly important, making several key intercepts to prevent Scotch from getting deeper into our defensive 50. Despite being under pressure, our defensive unit remained composed and held strong, with us going into quarter time trailing 0.2 to 0.0.

As the game progressed, we began to gain more territory through the work of our midfielders and gradually shifted the momentum in our favour. Tilly was outstanding around the clearances, while Grace’s work rate, Matilda’s tap work and Poppy’s physicality helped us win more contests and generate forward opportunities.

Our persistence was rewarded when Edie worked hard to win the ball back inside our forward 50 and kicked our first goal of the game. From there, our ball movement continued to improve as the game went on, with greater confidence and composure allowing us to transition the ball more effectively.

A key moment came in the third quarter when Tilly found Lucy from a kick-in near the 50-metre arc. Lucy was able to move the ball into the corridor and generate speed through the middle, before Celeste crumbed the resulting inside 50 contest and extended our lead.

From that point, we were never headed. The team showed excellent resilience after a difficult start and continued to improve throughout the game, with our pressure, clearance work and improved ball movement ultimately allowing us to take control and finish strongly.

Cardijn 7.4.46 defeated Pulteney 4.7.31

Cardijn hosted us for what was effectively the grand final, with first place taking on second in the final game of what has been a very successful season.

The boys were incredibly excited, as for many of them this was their first experience of finals football. From the opening bounce, it was clear that Cardijn had come to play, and it was going to be a hard-fought contest. Our boys were more than up to the challenge, with both teams applying outstanding pressure and making every contest fiercely competitive.

Cardijn were slightly cleaner with their ball use in the first half, using the corridor effectively and hitting their targets to gain an advantage. To Pulteney’s credit, the boys never stopped chasing, competed with great determination, and gave 100% throughout the match.

By three-quarter time, Cardijn appeared to be in a commanding position. However, the Pulteney boys refused to give up and produced a spirited fightback in the final quarter, closing the margin to within a couple of goals. Cardijn then kicked a late goal in the closing minutes to seal the victory.The boys should be extremely proud of everything they have achieved this season. We have come a long way from our first game, when we only just had enough players to field a team, to becoming a close-knit group that played for one another. Their skills, teamwork, and understanding of the game have improved enormously, and we look forward to next season with great enthusiasm.

The Middle B3 team secured a convincing 5–2 victory over CBC on the weekend following a strong and dominant performance from start to finish. The team displayed excellent discipline, teamwork and determination, maintaining possession well and applying consistent pressure across the field.

Our attackers and defenders worked seamlessly together, creating several scoring opportunities through clever passing patterns and well-timed movement. The defence remained composed under pressure, while the attacking players showed confidence and creativity in front of goal. Jake was outstanding in goals, making several important saves to deny clear chances and helping the team maintain its lead.

It was a fantastic all-round team effort, with every player contributing positively to the result. Congratulations to the Middle B3 team on an impressive performance and well-deserved victory.
