Sport: Senior & Middle School, Term 3 Week 3 2026

Pulteney Grammar faced Adelaide High School in what proved to be a challenging contest, particularly after a sluggish start following a long day at the swimming carnival. Adelaide High came out strongly in the first quarter, and Pulteney found themselves seven goals down at the first break.

Despite Jayden Turner getting his hand to the ball first in the ruck, Pulteney struggled to capitalise around the contest, losing the centre clearance count six to one in the opening quarter. This placed the team under immediate pressure and allowed Adelaide High to gain early control of the game.

To the boys’ credit, they responded with renewed determination after quarter time. Some restructuring through the midfield helped the team make better use of Turner’s ruck work, and Pulteney began to dominate the centre clearance. The players also showed a more defensive mindset, working harder to pressure Adelaide High and slow their ball movement.

Elliot Gask provided an important lift with a well-finished first goal, which raised the team’s spirits and gave the group some belief. This energy was further lifted by Hamish Beaven, who showed great courage with a strong mark running back with the flight of the ball. These moments helped Pulteney work their way back into the contest, despite going into half time eight goals down.

Jayden Turner continued to tap the ball at will in the centre bounce and produced a breakout performance in the ruck. While the boys were clearly tired after a big day, they never backed down after the first quarter and showed real pride in the way they continued to compete. Although the result did not go our way, the response after quarter time was a positive reflection of the group’s character and resilience.

The boys started the match strongly, winning the centre clearances and moving the ball quickly by hand and foot into attack. Quick handballs to teammates in better positions allowed us to take advantage of our opportunities, while consistently lowering our eyes and hitting targets inside the forward 50 led to clean and effective ball movement.

Playing with an open forward line gave us the space to move the ball into dangerous areas and create quality scoring chances. It was our most accurate kicking performance of the season, finishing with an outstanding 20 goals and 5 behinds.

It was a strong all-round team performance, with the boys working hard for each other, using the ball well, and being rewarded on the scoreboard.

We now turn our attention to our final match next week, where we’ll be looking to finish the season in the same strong form. It has already been a very successful season, and we’re hopeful of capping it off with another positive performance to finish on a high.

After a demanding day in the pool, the team showed great resilience and enthusiasm as they took to the field against Woodcroft.

What followed was an energetic and determined performance, with a strong, competitive mindset resulting in an impressive 10–0 victory. It was a fantastic display to watch.

Our Middle B Soccer boys travelled to St John’s for the Pink Round over the weekend and delivered a strong performance. After conceding early, Pulteney responded well, working hard to regain control and secure a 3–1 victory.

The team adapted effectively to the smaller artificial surface, moving the ball with confidence and composure. A huge shout out to Ari, scoring an excellent hat-trick with three well-taken goals.
