Pulteney Grammar suffered another narrow defeat this week, going down to Adelaide High by 5 points in a hard-fought contest. While the result was disappointing, the performance gave the team further belief that they can match it with the Division 1 sides.
The team started a little flat, with Adelaide High kicking a goal inside the opening 60 seconds. Despite this, Pulteney worked their way into the game, led by Michael Owen, who was dominant in the ruck and around the ground, giving our midfielders first use of the football. Eli Morrow also provided a strong marking target up forward, helping the team create several scoring opportunities and converting a few himself. Unfortunately, some missed chances in front of goal proved costly, with Pulteney otherwise creating enough opportunities to be in front at quarter time.
The second quarter followed a similar pattern, with the team at times panicking with ball in hand and lacking composure under pressure. However, the defensive group continued to work hard, with Donald outstanding in several one-on-one contests at full-back and Allen providing strong defensive support across half-back.
The third quarter saw a strong response, as Pulteney lifted its defensive work rate and improved its contest around the football. Beaven provided much-needed drive and became an important outlet when pushing into the midfield, while improved composure with ball in hand led to some excellent link-up play by foot and a classy team goal.
The final quarter was a nail-biting finish, with Adelaide High just managing to get across the line. While the loss was frustrating, particularly in a game Pulteney felt it could have won, there were many positives to take away from a performance that showed the team can compete strongly at this level.

Boys Middles
Adelaide High School 6.3.39 defeated Pulteney Grammar 4.6.30
In a fiercely contested match, our boys went down by just nine points after an excellent battle between two committed sides. The game ebbed and flowed throughout, with both teams enjoying periods of ascendancy and neither able to gain a decisive advantage.
Pressure from both sides was outstanding, resulting in a hard-fought contest highlighted by strong tackling and relentless effort around the ball. While the opposition showed slightly more poise with ball in hand at crucial moments, our players matched them in intensity and determination for the entire game.
One of the most pleasing aspects of the performance was the group’s strength of character.
When the game was on the line and the scoreboard wasn’t in our favour, the boys refused to give in. They continued to fight hard, support each other, and challenge the opposition right to the final siren.
Although the result didn’t go our way, there was plenty to admire in the effort, resilience, and commitment shown by the team. It was an even contest between two quality sides, and the boys can take confidence from the way they competed throughout the game.
Girls Soccer
Our girls were outstanding, securing a hard-fought 2-1 victory in a top-of-the-table clash against Wilderness. Their skill, determination, teamwork, and tenacity shone through against a very strong opponent.
Well done, girls we are incredibly proud of you. Let’s build on this momentum and continue to play the beautiful game with passion and joy.
A heartfelt thank you to the wonderful families who came out to support this special team, your support is greatly appreciated.
Go Pulteney!

Volleyball
It was another exciting round of volleyball for Pulteney, with plenty of strong performances across both our boys’ and girls’ teams.
In the boys’ competition, the U19B1 side enjoyed a well-earned bye, while U19B2 faced a strong South Adelaide outfit and, despite their efforts, were unable to come away with the win. The U17B1 team showed tremendous resilience, fighting back from a set down to claim a thrilling 2-1 victory. Continuing their impressive season, U15B1 maintained their winning form with a dominant 3-0 performance.
Our girls’ teams also produced some excellent volleyball. The U19G1 squad secured a fantastic 2-0 win against a tough Mt Lofty team, displaying composure and teamwork throughout the match. The U17G1 team battled hard but struggled to find consistency on the day, resulting in a tough loss. Meanwhile, U15G1 delivered one of their strongest performances of the season, demonstrating excellent serving consistency and a real commitment to three-touch volleyball as they earned a well-deserved 2-1 victory.
Congratulations to all players for their efforts and commitment, and thank you to our coaches, staff, and supporters who continue to make the Pulteney Volleyball Program such a success.

Basketball
Pulteney Basketball took on Cabra this week, with our senior teams travelling away while the middle school squads enjoyed home-court advantage.
The senior teams faced a challenging morning, with injuries impacting rotations and making it difficult to maintain the high intensity required throughout the games. Despite some strong passages of play and plenty of effort, the Senior A, B and C teams were unable to come away with victories.
The middle school teams, however, produced an excellent set of results. The Middle Cs secured a thrilling 40-38 win, while the Middle Bs followed suit with a hard-fought 45-41 victory. In both games, some excellent coaching and composure in the closing stages helped guide the teams to important wins.
The Middle As were involved in one of the games of the round. After trailing by 12 points during the third quarter, the boys mounted an impressive comeback and gave themselves a chance to win with the final shot of the game. Unfortunately, the comeback fell just short as they went down 45-47 in a highly competitive contest.
The Middle Ds welcomed St John’s and delivered another strong performance. Despite a late surge from the opposition, the team remained composed to hold on for a 37-35 victory. A special thank you goes to Year 6 students Alan C and Elias A, who stepped up to assist the team on the day.
Congratulations to all players, coaches and supporters on another great week of Pulteney Basketball.

Well done to all players for the way they handled the challenge and for representing Pulteney so well.
