The Senior Football team produced an excellent response against Blackfriars this round, bouncing back strongly after a difficult result the previous week. A key focus heading into the game was improving our contest work, and the players delivered in this area with strong tackle pressure, a greater hunger for the football, and a clear willingness to compete.
While it was not raining during the match, the heavy oval meant the game was effectively played in wet conditions following significant rain during the week. Pleasingly, the players adapted well, followed the pre-game instructions around taking territory, and made smart decisions to keep the ball moving forward. Despite the challenging conditions, the team was still able to move the ball effectively and create scoring opportunities.
The opening quarter was particularly promising, and with a little more polish in front of goal, Pulteney could easily have taken a lead into the first break. From there, the contest remained tight and evenly matched, producing a nail-biting finish, with Pulteney ultimately falling just short by 9 points.
There were several standout individual performances. Turner gave us first use in the ruck and helped set the tone around the contest. Martin’s work rate through the midfield was exceptional, while Bezinna’s defensive strengths were on full display down back as he directed and supported those around him. Kazimierczak was lively up forward and provided a creative avenue to goal, while Barklay was excellent in defence, consistently providing a strong contest and limiting the impact of his opponent. Importantly, this match also saw a much more even contribution across the team, with all players playing their role and competing strongly.
Overall, this was a much-improved performance built on effort, pressure and resilience. The group should take plenty of confidence from the way they responded and look to continue building on this momentum in the coming weeks.

Boys Middles
Pulteney 15.9.99 defeated Nazareth 4.1.25
In challenging winter conditions on a wet ground, the team delivered a strong four-quarter performance. The players used the ball well despite the slippery conditions, consistently hitting targets by hand and foot and making smart decisions under pressure.
A key feature of the performance was the team’s two-way running, with players working hard both offensively and defensively throughout the day. Following turnovers, the first option was regularly to give to teammates in better positions ahead of the ball, helping create attacking opportunities and maintain momentum.
The side’s work rate was outstanding, with hard running sustained across all four quarters. The team was also efficient in front of goal, converting opportunities accurately and capitalising on periods of dominance.
Overall, it was a disciplined and committed performance, highlighted by strong ball use, relentless effort, and excellent teamwork in difficult conditions
Girls Soccer
The girls were ready, switched on, and made a flying start, scoring three goals in the first five minutes.
That set the tone for some brilliant, and at times breathtaking, soccer, resulting in a 10–0 victory.
We rotated player positions so that the usual midfielders and defenders had the opportunity to play forward, which they clearly enjoyed.
The teamwork, energy, enthusiasm, and creativity on display were a joy to watch. Well done, team — we are very proud of you.
We also thank the parents for coming out to support the players; your presence is greatly valued and appreciated.
Go Pulteney!

Triathlon
Congratulations to Alexander Brown who was recently awarded the Australian Triathlon State Series Age Champion award last weekend. Well done Alex!
Oakbank Cross Country SSSA State Champs.
Despite the wet and cold conditions, and a heavy racing surface, the team did a fantastic job in their events and produced some very respectable results. With varying levels of cross-country experience across the group, it was great to see everyone come together and represent the school so well.
In the 12-year-old girls’ 3000m event, and following qualification at East Adelaide District Day in May, Millie V helped secure a team Gold medal with the other East Adelaide representatives. Millie finished in 21st place from a field of more than 200 competitors, improving her time by over 20 seconds on a track that was much heavier than last year.
Hudson W also delivered an excellent performance in the 13-year-old boys’ event, finishing 7th in another large field. Congratulations on a top 10 result.
In the 13-year-old girls’ event, Sofia H finished in 27th place, which was an excellent result in such a strong field.
In the 15-year-old girls’ race, Tilly W claimed 1st place, while her teammates also ran strongly, with Zoe R finishing 34th, Lana H 46th, and Lana H 60th, and Lucy H 63rd. It was an awesome effort from the group in a field of well over 100 competitors.
Henry H continued to show great improvement in the 16-year-old boys’ 5000m, finishing in an impressive 14th place.
Ellouise D also ran a strong race in the 16-year-old girls’ 4000m, finishing 20th.
We hope the team enjoyed the day and the challenging conditions. They are a terrific group of students and continue to represent the school with outstanding behaviour on and off the track.
The Cross-Country Term 2 team continues with Wednesday competition, with two races remaining this term as we keep working to improve ourselves on the track.
