Volleyball

It was another busy week of volleyball for our Pulteney teams, with plenty of strong performances across the program.

The U15 Boys continued their impressive season, securing a convincing 3-0 victory and maintaining their strong run of form. The U17 Boys faced a tough challenge against a quality Norwood side, falling 1-2 in a hard-fought contest.

In the senior boys competition, the U19 B1 team produced one of their most complete performances of the season, defeating USC 3-0 in a convincing win. Unfortunately, the U19 B2 team were unable to find their rhythm on the night, going down 0-3.

The U19 Girls faced a difficult opponent and lost 0-3, but there were plenty of positives to take away. Despite being made up entirely of underage players, the group passed exceptionally well and continued to improve as the match progressed. The U17 Girls also suffered a defeat but were highly competitive in every set. Despite being undermanned, the team displayed outstanding effort, determination, and resilience throughout the evening.

Across the girls program, balancing volleyball commitments alongside preparations for the school musical has presented some unique challenges. We greatly appreciate the commitment, flexibility, and positive attitude shown by all players and families during this busy period.

With no matches scheduled this Friday due to the long weekend, we look forward to returning refreshed and enjoying a return to normal routines in the weeks ahead.

Basketball

This week’s basketball fixtures provided an exciting preview of what promises to be a competitive Intercol later this year, with six matches played against St John’s.

The middle school teams hosted at home, with the Middle Cs opening the morning in a thrilling contest. Despite a determined effort, the boys narrowly fell 24-26 in a game that could have gone either way. The Middle Bs followed and were locked level at quarter time before a well-timed tactical adjustment from coach Michael sparked an impressive run. The boys took control of the game and powered away to record a convincing 60-37 victory.

The Middle As faced a physically strong St John’s outfit and were challenged throughout the contest, eventually going down 26-76. The Middle Ds closed out the home fixtures in style, defeating a gallant Unley High School side 40-25. A special thank you goes to Year 6 students Elias A and Jordan M for stepping up and filling in for the team.

The senior teams travelled to St John’s and produced an outstanding set of results. The Senior Cs continued their strong form, backing up last week’s one-point victory with another hard-fought win, defeating St John’s 42-38. The Senior Bs followed with a nail-biting 38-37 victory, with Liam K playing in both games and earning MVP votes in each for his outstanding performances.

The Senior As rounded out the day in impressive fashion. Despite being undermanned, the group applied relentless defensive pressure and dominated the offensive glass, creating countless second-chance opportunities on their way to a 51-45 victory. It was a resilient and determined performance that hopefully provides a glimpse of what’s to come when Intercol arrives later this year.

There are no games scheduled this Saturday, so we wish all players, families, and coaches a safe and enjoyable long weekend.

Year 11/12 Boys Statewide Schools Cup Recap

On Thursday, our Year 11/12 Boys Basketball team competed in the Statewide Schools Cup, taking on two of South Australia’s most established sporting schools in PAC and Rostrevor.

Facing such strong opposition, the boys knew they would need to be at their best from the opening tip-off. Across both matches, the team competed with great effort, intensity, and determination, matching it physically and refusing to back down against quality opponents. While the results did not fall Pulteney’s way, the boys represented the school proudly and gained valuable experience competing against some of the state’s strongest school basketball programs.

The day provided an excellent opportunity for the team to test themselves at a high level and highlighted several positive signs as they continue to develop throughout the season.

A special thank you to Coach Ash for his assistance and leadership on the day, as well as Mr Garrad for taking the time to come along and support the team throughout the competition.

Lukass Blicavs – Head of Basketball, Volleyball and Rungie Cup.

Our Senior teams continued their winning streak against Walford, and a big shout out goes to our Year 7, 8 and 9 teams who played multiple fixtures due to low numbers. Thank you to the students and families who were willing to step in and support other teams and still managed to secure some great wins – your support is truly appreciated!

Football

1st XVIII

The Senior Football team faced a significant challenge on Wednesday, coming up against a very strong Cardijn side. While the scoreboard reflected the quality of the opposition, there were still several positives to take from the match.

After a slow start in the first quarter, the team showed much greater fight and resilience through their defensive efforts. Despite Cardijn continuing to win plenty of supply through the midfield, our defence held up well after quarter time and worked hard to slow their momentum. The boys continued to compete, applied better pressure, and showed a willingness to stay in the contest.

There were also some encouraging individual performances. Jayden Turner battled dutifully in the ruck and gained valuable experience against strong opposition. Hamish Beaven was a standout across half-back, taking several intercept marks and pushed into the midfield to in the second half to gain valuable experience. Eli Morrow was forced to move into defence to help stem the tide and was solid inches defensive efforts, while Hamish Clark offered strong defensive pressure up forward. The team also generated several shots on goal, with Connor Martin finishing as our sole goal scorer for the day.

Although the result was difficult, the response after quarter time was pleasing. Games like this provide important learning opportunities, particularly around decision-making, positioning and team structure. With continued commitment to training and a focus on improving our game sense, this group has plenty of scope for growth.

Coaches: Chris Clements, Darcy Young and John Taylor.

 Boys Middles

 Pulteney 15.7.97 defeated Cardijn 3.6.24

Pulteney controlled the game from the contest and built a strong win through pressure, discipline and efficient ball use. Our contested work around the ground set the tone early, allowing us to win first possession and keep territory in our favour throughout the match. Defensively, our pressure on the opposition ball carrier was a major strength. The tackling intensity was consistent across all four quarters, creating turnovers in dangerous areas. Our ability to close space quickly limited Cardijn’s run and prevented them from generating clean inside-50 entries. With ball in hand, we used it efficiently and made good decisions under pressure. Our disposal efficiency allowed us to maintain control of the tempo, link up effectively through the corridor and convert opportunities going forward. The combination of strong contested ball, relentless pressure and clean execution was the foundation of an impressive team performance. Well done boys.

Soccer

Boys

 Open A

What a great win for our Open A team, defeating CBC 2 goals to 1. In a hard-fought, scrappy contest, our boys showed excellent resilience and stayed composed right through to the final whistle.

Well done, gents!

Middle B

The Middle School B’s came back from conceding early against a pretty strong CBC side to get a 3-2 win, with a late goal by Hudson B to secure the win. The boys showed great adaptability to swap to a 5 back and play on the counter to score our 3 goals and shut down the opposition’s attacks. Very impressive performance from the boys to earn the hard-fought win.

Girls Soccer

With a few away due to illness and the musical, our Girls Soccer team had to scramble to field a full team. We just got there…. due to passionate team members trying to recruit a friend or two and the amazing sports department working behind the scenes to make sure we could get 11 players.

As for the game, Pulteney played great soccer throughout. At times it was very special, resulting in a fantastic 8-1 win.

The girl’s energy, enthusiasm and work rate was outstanding.

Again, thank you to the parents for your support & encouragement, you lift the team greatly.

Go Pulteney!
