Term 2 Anglican Cup

Our Winter Senior School Anglican Cup was held on Wednesday, and despite the wet conditions and heavy rain at times throughout the day, it was a very successful event.

Competitions were held across Boys and Girls Footy, Soccer, Basketball, Netball, Mixed Table Tennis and Hockey. Overall, Pulteney secured second place with 30 points, finishing 11 points behind the eventual winners, Woodcroft.

Across all fixtures, coaches awarded fair play points to students. Congratulations to the following students who were recognised with Fair Play medals for their sport:

Zack Apostolakos – Boys Basketball
Josh Allen – Boys Football
Michael Chiriac – Table Tennis
Harvey Allen – Hockey

Basketball

It was another strong week for the Pulteney Grammar basketball program, with our senior teams producing an outstanding clean sweep against Scotch College. All three senior sides came away with impressive victories, highlighted by a remarkable effort from the Senior Cs. With only four players available, the team showed incredible resilience and determination to defeat Scotch 51-41 in one of the performances of the round.

The Senior Bs continued their strong form with a convincing win, while the Senior As battled hard against a formidable Scotch outfit. In a high-quality contest, the As showed composure and teamwork under pressure to secure an impressive victory.

In the Middle School competition, the As fought hard but were unable to overcome a strong Scotch side. However, the Bs and Cs both responded in excellent fashion with comfortable wins, continuing the positive momentum across the program.

Unfortunately, the Middle Ds fell just short in a thrilling contest against PAC, going down 22-20 in a game that could have gone either way. Despite the result, the team displayed tremendous effort and determination throughout the match.

Overall, it was another successful round for Pulteney Basketball, with great effort, resilience and team spirit on display across all year levels.

Senior A W 59-57
Senior B W 45-34
Senior C W 51-41
Middle A L 35-48
Middle B W 47-28
Middle C W 30-13

Volleyball

Pulteney Volleyball opened the season strongly in Round 1, with a number of impressive performances across both the boys and girls competitions. The teams are playing in the SAVL Junior competition which is a Volleyball SA competition against the best club teams in the state.

The boys teams battled hard throughout the night, with excellent wins recorded by the U19B1 and U17B1 sides. Both teams displayed strong teamwork and composure under pressure to begin their seasons on a positive note. The U15B1 and U19B2 teams were also highly competitive, narrowly missing out in closely contested matches that could have gone either way.

Despite only two fixtures for the girls program, both teams produced outstanding performances. The U17G side was dominant from start to finish, securing a convincing 3-0 victory through consistent play and strong communication on court.

A special mention goes to the U19G team, who delivered a fantastic win despite fielding a squad considerably younger than their opposition. Strong service pressure and outstanding defensive intensity proved to be the difference, with the team showing great resilience, energy and composure throughout the match.

Overall, it was an encouraging start to the volleyball season, with all teams demonstrating excellent effort, teamwork and determination across the round.

U19B1 W 2-0
U19B2 L 0-3
U17B1 W 2-0

Netball

Round 1 of the IGSSA Netball season commenced on Saturday. Well done to all the girls who competed throughout the morning, particularly those students who backed up after a long day at Anglican Cup on Wednesday.

There were some very impressive wins from both of our senior teams. Although our Year 7 and 8 teams did not get the win, they showed great determination, never gave up, and kept smiling throughout.

Good luck at training this week, and we look forward to seeing everyone regroup for Round 2 this Saturday.
