Basketball

Round 1 of the basketball season saw a strong start for Pulteney Grammar School, finishing with an impressive 6 wins from 7 games.

The Middle School teams set the tone early, delivering a clean sweep against Marryatville High School in the A, B and C grades. The D team also secured a great result, defeating St Ignatius’ College. With a number of new players and newly formed teams, it was encouraging to see such strong performances and positive team chemistry across the board.

In the Senior competition, both the B and C teams recorded solid wins over Marryatville, showcasing depth and consistency within the program. The A team faced a tougher challenge, narrowly going down in a hard-fought contest despite missing several key players on the day.

Overall, it was a fantastic opening round that highlighted the strength, growth, and potential of the basketball program moving forward.

Senior A L 66-77
Senior B W 60-29
Senior C W 50-30
Middle A W 61-36
Middle B W 66-12
Middle C W 69-10

Water Polo

Congratulations to Sasha Jones (Year 9) who represented South Australia at the Australian Youth Water Polo Championships in Brisbane in the school holidays. Sasha finished the tournament with 8 goals and also played a key defensive role. This is the 5th time Sasha has represented South Australia for water polo.

Well done Sasha

Soccer

Middle B

The Middle School B team played hard on Saturday but went down 3-0 to UHS. There were no scorers, but it was a strong starting point for the team, with plenty of good passing patterns and committed tackling to win back possession. A couple of unlucky goals in the second half made the comeback difficult, although the team continued to press and created a few chances of its own. The boys finished the game with a positive attitude and are looking forward to training next week as they work together to improve and aim for a win.

Coaches – Angus Baldock and Wilson Lennox.

Table Tennis – Middle School

Pulteney lost to St Ignatius in a close battle between both teams. Sascha Chiriac and Will Dodd fought hard for their doubles win (2-1), after going down in the first set and coming back to win the next two. Pollo Huang and Cameron Tran impressed, winning both of their singles matches, as well as Caiden Cheong, James Starr, Rupert Relf-Christopher, Isaac Wilson, and Henri Irizarry winning a singles match.

Baseball

Congratulations to Samuel Clarke who will be competing in the Under 14 Junior League National Baseball Titles in May in Lismore NSW.

Congratulations Sam, we wish you the best of luck!

Winter Rowing Programme

Winter Rowing and Strength and Conditioning is now in full swing, with excellent engagement and enthusiasm from students across the programme.

Rowers have been making the most of the winter season by building a strong foundation for the upcoming summer racing period. On the water, athletes are continuing to develop their technical skills, focusing on boat feel, timing, and efficiency in each stroke.

Off the water, the mezzanine floor of the Henshall Sports Centre has been a hive of activity. Rowers are working hard on the rowing machines to build fitness, strength, and endurance, while also completing structured trunk conditioning sessions to support performance and injury prevention. These sessions target core stability and control through exercises such as dead bugs, plank shoulder taps, side planks, and bird dogs, helping athletes maintain strong posture and efficient movement patterns both on and off the water .

It has been particularly pleasing to see the commitment and work ethic of the group, with students pushing themselves and supporting one another. With such a positive start to the winter programme, we look forward to seeing continued progress and development in the weeks ahead.
