School Sport SA Athletics Championships

Congratulations to our Athletics team for representing Pulteney with pride at the School Sport SA Athletics Championships on Monday 30 March.
Finishing 6th overall in the C Division is a fantastic achievement, highlighted by numerous standout performances and courageous efforts from athletes competing above their age groups.
A special shoutout to our Head of Athletics, Shane Danaher, whose dedication and hard work over the years have helped grow the program – evident in our record turnout of 48 students.
We’re incredibly proud of everyone involved. Bring on Cross Country in Term 2!

AFL Pre-Season Launch

  • SAVE THE DATE Tuesday 21 April 3.45 – 5.00pm (Term 2 Week 1).

Our season launch will be a fantastic opportunity for the entire Pulteney community to come together and celebrate the start of the season. We will run a rotation of drills and skills, followed by a BBQ for players, families and staff to enjoy. If anyone has contacts within the AFL community, I would greatly appreciate you reaching out to them to see if they may be interested in attending or supporting the event. It would be excellent to gauge interest from any current or former players and coaches who may be able to be involved, the more the merrier.

Further details will be communicated closer to the date.

Cricket – Boys 1st XI (Intercol)

Pulteney 3/145 (W McClurg 57, J Allen 47) Defeated St John’s 76 (J Allen 3/12, M Ormsby 3/16 & 2 Run Outs)

The inaugural Intercollegiate Cup between Pulteney and St John’s had been on the horizon for many weeks, and all of a sudden, it was here!

Will McClurg continued his good form at the toss and elected to bat, and Josh Allen got us off to the perfect start, with a boundary backward of square off the first ball of the match. He and Rafi Storer carried that momentum through the first 11 overs, compiling a 56 run partnership for the first wicket through aggressive running and good placement. Storer’s departure brought Will McClurg to the crease, whose subdued start gave way to a flurry of boundaries and hard-run twos. He and Allen put on 70 for the second wicket, with McClurg ending on a magnificent 57 off 48 balls. With 145 on the board at innings’ close, Pulteney knew a good bowling performance would be enough to secure the shield.

Captain McClurg then led his team to the ideal start, holding his nerve after being hit for six to dismiss the opening batsman next ball, superbly stumped by Axel Vassos. Accuracy from he and his opening partner Harrison Rees saw the asking rate rise quickly, before Max Ormsby came on to spin a web through the middle overs, finishing with 3/16 off his 5 overs. The standard of fielding was elite, with every chance taken and Ormsby continuing to contribute with two brilliant run outs. Josh Allen came on to clean up the tail, taking three of his own to wrap up an historic win!

A big thank you to all of the boys who donned the whites for the 1st XI this season, to the groundstaff who provide our amazing facilities, to our umpire Rick Shanahan, and finally to Ben Johnswood and John Taylor for the brilliant Pulteney Cricket Program they run. Can’t wait to do it all again next summer!

Girls Cricket (Intercol)

PGS 4/73 lost to St John’s Grammar 1/75

The Pulteney girls put on our best batting performance yet in this important match. The girls were led by Tilly Boucher who put on a great innings of 19 retired. Tilly and Elle Dodd put on a fantastic opening partnership of 37, getting the team off to a great start. Maddy Bryant displayed her excellent batting technique, remaining not out after her innings as well. Kiera Zhang also batted very well, playing some attacking strokes whilst in the middle.

The girls were up and about in the field, and fielded well against a strong St John’s Grammar. Ellouise Dodd picked up a wicket in her first over, clean bowling the batter. Tilly Williams and Tilly Boucher both did a great job behind the stumps, and Kiera Zhang impressed again with her athleticism and intent in the field.

It has been a great season for the girls, where we have had an injection of youth which makes for exciting times in the future. The girls have supported each other really well and connected as a team.

Cricket Hat trick!

Congratulations to Pulteney Middle School pace bowler Aaryan Longo-Reddy who took a hattrick on Saturday morning against Westminster.

Aaryan has been a regular wicket-taker for the Year 7/8 team this term, keeping the ball full and attacking the stumps.

His first wicket on Saturday was clean bowled and he had a catch taken the very next ball. Aaryan fired the hattrick ball full and at the stumps, launching a huge appeal when the ball struck the batter’s back pad.

The team consensus was that the final lbw was “plumb” and the umpire agreed, the raised finger triggering jubilant scenes.

Keep up the great work, Aaryan!

Fantastic also to see his team mates get around him, sharing in his success and enjoying the moment as much as the bowler.

 Badminton

Middle B4 Blue (6/13/392) defeated Adelaide High School (3/7/295)
The Middle Blue team delivered another strong performance this week taking the victory 6-3. Zachery and Alex led the way with strong performances in their singles games while other members Caiden, Justin Zhang and Justin Zhou also recorded good wins. In doubles, students played confidently and with consistency taking two out of the three doubles games on offer to cement the overall win.

Middle B4 White (5/11/370) defeated St Ignatius College (4/9/328)
The Middle White team delivered a competitive performance in final week of games in Term 1, finishing with a narrow 5-4 win. Strong singles efforts from Hannah, Raynee, Dan, and William helped build momentum, while the doubles pair of Yuna & Bella secured an important victory to seal the result. Overall, it was a hard-fought match, showing resilience and teamwork across the lineup.

Looking back at Term 1 Badminton season, we are able to take away many positives not just because of the countless victories but teamwork between students, their overall improvement and also sportsmanship not just within their peers but also with opponents. Looking forward to seeing everyone back in Term 4.
