Cricket – 2nd XI Boys

Pulteney 6/100 (Jono Newman 50 not out, Rafi Storer 11 not out) defeated St Ignatius 9/61 (Rafi Storer 2/4, Vinny Nguyen 2/5).

An outstanding win, the first for the 2nd XI for two years apart from forfeits, in every respect! A superb undefeated partnership between Jono Newman (a magnificent half century highlighted by elegant stroke play) and Rafi Storer (rotating the strike very effectively) converted a very modest 6/46 into an impressive total of 6/100. Our three Year 9 fast medium bowlers Harrison Rees, Josh Bryant and Vinny Nguyen bowled with great control and were well supported by leg spinner Rafi Storer, wonderful fielding including great catches by Oli Durkin, Josh Bryant and Vinny Nguyen, and a sharp run out by Laurence Codd. Another highlight was the debut at this level of Charlie Williamson who achieved a wicket with his first delivery!  Victory was a very nice reward for steady improvement each week. Well done boys!  JT and MY

Volleyball

Last Friday, the middle school boys played off in the division 1 SAAS volleyball grand final. In a thrilling grand final between Pulteney Grammar and Immanuel College, Immanuel claimed victory with a 2-0 set win, securing the championship. However, despite the loss, the Pulteney boys delivered an exceptional performance that showcased their skill, determination, and unwavering commitment to the game. From the very first serve, the Pulteney players fought hard, responding to every challenge with impressive teamwork and resilience. Their defense was what kept them in the game with some exceptional saves to keep the ball up. While Immanuel proved to be a strong opponent, Pulteney’s efforts were a clear reflection of the hard work they’ve put in throughout the season, consistently competing at a high level. Although they didn’t come away with the win, the Pulteney team showed incredible heart, never backing down and giving their all in every rally. The School and community should be immensely proud of their efforts and the sportsmanship they exhibited, as they proved themselves to be worthy competitors in a highly competitive final.
