SA Schools Band & Orchestra Festival (ABODA)
What an incredible week of music at the South Australian Schools Band and Orchestra Festival, proudly run by ABODA SA! Held across Brighton Secondary School and Westminster School, the festival brought together young musicians from across Adelaide and regional South Australia for six full days of competition and celebration. With nearly 200 ensembles and 45 schools participating, this year’s festival was the biggest and most successful yet!
It was wonderful to see so many talented young musicians take to the stage, challenge themselves and perform at an incredibly high standard. The musical standard of the ensembles continues to rise year after year, making this festival such an important and exciting part of the school music calendar.
Adjudicators travelled from Adelaide, Melbourne and Brisbane to assess each performance, provide valuable feedback and award the prizes.
We are incredibly proud of our seven ensembles who competed, with some fantastic results:
- Senior Drum Corps – Silver (2nd in Division)
- Intermediate Drum Corps – Gold (Division Champion)
- Stage Band 1 – Silver
- Stage Band 2 – Bronze
- Junior Strings – Bronze
- Intermediate Strings – Gold (Division Champion)
- Senior Strings – Silver
A huge congratulations to all of our students for the dedication, commitment and courage they showed in preparing their programs, stepping onto the stage and giving it their very best. A very special thank you also goes to our ensemble directors and staff for the countless hours of preparation, rehearsal and support that made these performances possible.
This festival is an important part of our annual performance program, and we are so proud of the way our students represented the school. We can’t wait to do it all again next year!

I am thrilled to announce that our students achieved a wonderful set of results at the Dance Ultra Finals on Friday night!

Patrick Longden also received a Special Mention for his participation in the “Brotherhood of Man” routine. The adjudicator was blown away by Patrick’s talent and performance, which is a fantastic recognition of his hard work and commitment!
A huge congratulations to all our dancers for their dedication, energy and commitment to their performances. A special thank you to Rosy Dobré for preparing and supporting our students throughout the competition season.
We now look forward to bringing our dancers together for the annual Dance Concert in Week 7 and can’t wait to see them take to the stage once again!

Pulteney Dance Showcase
In Week 7, we present our annual Pulteney Dance Showcase on Saturday 5 September in Wyatt Hall. This event is always one of the highlights of the Performing Arts calendar.
There will be two performances:
- 30pm Matinee (Year 1 – Year 12 students)
- 00pm Evening (Year 5 – Year 12 students)
A detailed letter was sent home to parents last week, which included important information about the technical rehearsal schedule, costumes/hair/make-up and schedule for the performance day on Saturday 5 September.
The Friends of Performing Arts will again be providing a BBQ sausage sizzle and bar between the two concerts. We warmly invite everyone to stay, enjoy a meal and a drink, and spend time with our Performing Arts community from approximately 5.00pm to 7.00pm. A bar service will also be available during the interval of both concerts. My sincere thanks to all the FoPA members for their time, effort and wonderful support.
Tickets are available now! They are limited and expected to sell quickly, so we encourage you to book early to avoid missing out. Adult tickets cost $20.00 each. Non-performing students are welcome to attend free of charge. Please note that children aged 4 and above will require their own ticket, and we kindly ask that children 3 and under sit on a parent or caregiver’s lap. Performing students do not need a ticket. If your child is performing in both concerts, you will need to purchase tickets to both. Seating is allocated, so booking early will also give you the best chance of securing your preferred seats.
