Middle & Senior School Instrumental Lessons & Outlook Email Calendar
There is currently an issue with Year 7 – 12 students being able to view their Instrumental Music/Drama lessons via their Outlook Email Calendar. This has been reported to E-Services, and they are currently working to resolve it.
In the meantime, students were emailed last Friday with the below options, so they can successfully check their lesson time:
- Ask parents or caregivers to log in to the community portal and view your timetable (select the Timetable tab once signed in)
- Email Laura Brougham or pop into her office (Ground Floor, Nicholls Building) and she will be able to assist
- Email the instrumental or drama teacher directly
I strongly recommend checking lesson times the day before the scheduled lesson to ensure students don’t miss it.
Co-Curricular Updates
A reminder to please ensure you’re logging your child’s absence for Performing Arts Co-Curricular activities via the Pulteney App. Please follow the below instructions:

Junior School:
- All junior school Performing Arts Co-Curricular activities resume this week (Week 2, Term 3).
- Junior Percussion Ensemble and Junior Handbell Ensemble will still run as normal this Friday 31 July, prior to Grandparent’s Day
Middle & Senior School:
- The MS/SS Swimming Carnival will take place this Wednesday 29 July. Please make note of the following ensembles:
- Senior Concert Choir (still running as normal prior to departure)
- ManChoir (cancelled)
- Intermediate Drum Corps (rescheduled for Friday 31 July 1.15-1.45pm)
- Small Jazz Ensemble (cancelled)
Grandparents Day – Junior School, Friday 31 July
This Friday is our annual Grandparents Day, where grandparents of our Junior School students are invited to spend the morning at Pulteney. They will have the opportunity to visit classrooms, see the wonderful work their grandchildren have been doing, enjoy a short Performing Arts showcase, and share morning tea together. Please refer to Mr Fay’s report in PRW for further details.
Our musicians and dancers have been working hard in preparation and are looking forward to performing as part of this special event. The following groups will be performing:

Coffee in the Lane
Please come along and hear the Year 9 Music class band perform on Friday 7 August, Week 3, from 7.50am until about 8.20am. We hope to see you all then.
SA School Band and Orchestra Festival (ABODA) – Week 4
In Week 4, we will compete in the annual South Australian Schools Band and Orchestra Festival, facilitated by the ABODA SA Committee.
This year, we have seven ensembles participating (see the table below). Information has been, and will continue to be, distributed to parents and families so everyone is fully aware of student movements throughout the week.

This year’s festival will feature 45 schools from across the state, with more than 200 ensembles performing. A new format has been introduced, with all string ensembles performing at Brighton Secondary School on Monday and Tuesday, while concert bands, percussion ensembles and drum corps will perform at Westminster School from Tuesday to Friday.
We look forward to representing Pulteney Grammar School and giving our very best performances. Festivals such as these provide a wonderful opportunity for our students to perform, receive feedback from respected adjudicators, and hear other outstanding school ensembles from across South Australia.
Dance Ultra Championship Date – Update
We have been advised that the proposed date for this event, Friday evening 14 August, may need to change. We are currently awaiting confirmation, but it is likely the event will now be held on either Friday 21 August or Friday 28 August. We will pass on this important information as soon as it comes to hand.
In the meantime, we wish our Middle School Dance Troupe BLUE and Senior School Dance Troupes all the very best as they compete in the opening rounds today!

We are thrilled to announce the theme for this year’s Gig@theGov event – Boogie Wonderland: 1970s Magic! We look forward to welcoming you dressed in your favourite 1970’s attire for what promises to be another fantastic evening of fun, food and music on Thursday 20 August at the Gov, Hindmarsh.
Tickets will be released soon. This year’s entertainment will feature the Pulteney String Orchestra, Stage Band 1, Stage Band 2, JOTT 1, JOTT 2, Small Jazz Ensemble, the Year 9, 10, 11 and 12 Music Class Bands, our senior singers, and making their performance debut, our guest rock band, The Price of Stew.
This is my favourite Performing Arts event of the year, and I hope many of you will join us for this wonderful evening of music and community. Dinner places are limited, so please make sure you purchase your tickets and reserve your table as soon as bookings are released.

In Week 7, we present our annual Pulteney Dance Showcase on Saturday 5 September in Wyatt Hall. This event is always one of the highlights of the Performing Arts calendar. Tickets will be released in coming weeks.

Please ensure you purchase the correct tickets to see your child perform. As ticket numbers are limited, we encourage families to book as soon as tickets are released, as both performances are likely to sell out.
All students will be required for a technical rehearsal on Thursday 3 and/or Friday 4 September, and will also be required to arrive on Saturday 5 September prior to the start of the Matinee Show (approximately 1.00pm). A detailed email with confirmed times and important information will be sent to parents of performing students in the coming weeks.
The Friends of Performing Arts will again be providing a BBQ sausage sizzle and bar between the two concerts. We warmly invite everyone to stay, enjoy a meal and a drink, and spend time with our Performing Arts community from approximately 5.00pm to 7.00pm. A bar service will also be available during the interval of both concerts. My sincere thanks to all the FoPA members for their time, effort and wonderful support.
Year 12 Drama Production
Our Year 12 Drama Class are proud to present “Girl Asleep”.
There are three evening performances in Week 8: Thursday 10, Friday 11 and Saturday 12 September at Holden St. Theatres, 7.00pm – 8.15pm.

In 1978 on the eve of her 15th birthday, Greta Driscoll would rather disappear than step onto the glittery, disco-lit dancefloor of growing up.
Shy and desperate to avoid attention, Greta is pushed into hosting a party by her relentlessly enthusiastic parents. At the party, the house is alive with flair: platform shoes teeter across the shag-pile carpet; a lava lamp glows in the corner; and a spinning vinyl sets the tone for a night that promises way more than Greta bargained for. Surrounding her is a cast of eccentric and confronting figures: her confidently quirky best friend; the unpredictable bullies, and her older sister, who seems to be drifting further into a world of eyeliner and late-night rebellion that Greta can’t quite understand.
As Greta is propelled into a parallel place that’s violent and thoroughly ludicrous, a mysterious figure lurks on the edges, who may be more than they appear. As the night spirals into a surreal, technicolour dreamscape, our audience will be immersed in a bizarre and sometimes frightening journey through Greta’s fears, desires, and imagination – where childhood and adulthood collide in unexpected ways. Part fairytale and part vigilante escapade, this is an adventure where heroism and gender implode in a bold exploration of sisterhood.
Funny, strange, and deeply heartfelt, this Australian play is a visually inventive story about identity, family, and the exhilarating leap into coming-of-age… all set to the unforgettable rhythm of the 1970s.
Instrumental Music and Drama Program
Pulteney’s Performing Arts Department offers private tuition for a range of instruments as well as voice and drama lessons.
Applications for this year opened in December 2025 and have been finalised, however students from Reception right through to Year 12 can enrol at any time across the year. If an instrument, type of lesson or teacher is already fully booked, we can place your child on a waiting list until a lesson becomes available.
