2026 ANZAC Commemorative Music Tour – UK/France/Belgium
Last Wednesday, 23 students and 5 staff returned from this year’s ANZAC Commemorative Music Tour. This was our third tour (following 2019 and 2023), and it was an incredible success, with our students performing across London, Paris, Ypres, Fromelles and Villers-Bretonneux.
There are far too many highlights to mention them all, but for me, the standouts were the commemorations of 12 fallen Old Scholars who died on the Western Front in WWI or while serving with RAF Bomber Command in WWII. These moments, where our current students honoured those who made the ultimate sacrifice, were deeply moving and profoundly important. To stand at the grave of an Old Scholar, tell their story, reflect on how they came to rest so far from home, and then deliver the Ode and play the Last Post, was extraordinary. It is something that will stay with me for the rest of my life.
In Paris, we marched down the Champs-Élysées and performed under the Arc de Triomphe as part of the La Flamme Ceremony. In Ypres, we performed at the Last Post Ceremony, witnessed by several South Australians. Other highlights included the Fromelles ANZAC Service in the presence of the Australian Ambassador to France and other dignitaries, our performances at the Chelsea Pensioners’ Home in London, the Old Scholars Dinner, and attending the Dawn Service at Villers-Bretonneux. Each of these experiences was incredibly special.
I am sure the students have created lifelong memories and have developed a deeper understanding of service, respect, dignity and the realities of war. These students will go on to be the leaders of the future, and it is hoped that through experiences such as this, they will lead with insight and compassion.
Along the way, there was also time for shared experiences and enjoyment — visiting world-class museums, exploring Paris and London, spending time at Disneyland Paris, and seeing Hamilton on the West End.
I would like to sincerely thank the staff on the tour — Annie Kwok, Andrew Robinson, Rosy Dobré and Mark Bourchier. These outstanding individuals gave up two and a half weeks of their time to support the students and make this tour possible. Their care, commitment and professionalism were exceptional, and I know the students greatly appreciated all they did. On our final evening in France, the students expressed their gratitude in a very special way.
A tour of this scale requires close to two years of planning and preparation. At the final stage, we faced significant challenges with airline travel due to unrest in the Middle East. Angas Travel, and in particular Jackie Male, did an extraordinary job navigating these complexities and ensuring the tour could proceed, at a time when many others were forced to cancel. We are extremely grateful for their efforts.
Looking ahead, we now begin planning for 2029 and the fourth iteration of this tour. There are still many Old Scholars to commemorate, including those who served and died at Gallipoli. Our current Year 7, 8 and 9 students will be eligible to participate in this next tour.
Finally, thank you to the Executive of Pulteney for their ongoing support of this remarkable program, and to the students who embraced the opportunity and gave so much of themselves. This tour is about service. It demands commitment, discipline and purpose, and our students rose to that challenge. I have no doubt they will carry the impact of this experience with them for many years to come.
Unite4Kids Event Adelaide Oval
We are thrilled to have been invited again to perform at the annual Unite4Kids fundraising luncheon, taking place at the Adelaide Oval on Wednesday 3 June at 12.00pm.
The Senior Drum Corps will be performing at this significant and meaningful event and we are confident the audience will enjoy a memorable performance from our students.
Students will travel to and from the venue by public transport (tram). They will depart school at approximately 11.00am and will return around 1.00pm. Parent consent and a letter will be emailed home to parents of the performing students in coming weeks.
Year 9 Camps and AMPed Program
Year 9 students are expected to attend their co-curricular rehearsals during AMPed, so that work can continue to be completed. When students are away on camp, they of course cannot attend rehearsals and are excused.
Winter Music Cabaret (Friday 12 June) & Winter Music Festival (Saturday 13 June)
We are very excited to be planning our Winter Music Cabaret and Festival in Week 8, Term 2.
This year, we are thrilled to be offering a Cabaret on Friday 12 June in Wyatt Hall at 6.00pm. This performance will feature: Stage Band 1, Stage Band 2, JOTT 1, JOTT 2 and the Small Jazz Ensemble, as these groups unfortunately missed the cancelled Term 1 Cabaret. We are hoping to have food and beverages available on the evening. More details to come.
On Saturday 13 June, our three Winter Concerts are as follows:
3.00pm – Choral Concert
Featuring: Junior Kurrajong Choir, Junior Year 3/4 Concert Choir, Junior Year 5/6 Concert Choir, Grammarphones Choir, Senior Concert Choir, and (to be confirmed) Man Choir.
