Year 1
Welcome to Year 1, 2026
We look forward to being a part of your child’s learning journey this year.
To stay up to date with important information throughout the year, we strongly encourage you to download the Pulteney Parent App and subscribe to Year 5.
Books and Stationery
- Once your child’s books and stationery arrive, please check that all items are included. If anything is missing, you can contact the supplier directly.
- To support your child’s organisation, please ensure all items are clearly labelled.
- A large soft pencil case is recommended for storing spare stationery items such as pencils, pens, and erasers. Pencil pots will be provided on classroom tables for everyday use.
- Families are welcome to drop off books and stationery on the afternoon before school begins, Tuesday 27 January, between 2.00–3.00pm. Teachers will be available during this time if you need any assistance.
- Library books will be sent home from Week 1. Borrowing books gives your child the chance to explore a wide range of texts, and having new stories at home provides a wonderful opportunity to share quality reading time together. We encourage you to read, discuss, and enjoy these books several times throughout the week, as this repetition helps build important early literacy and pre-reading skills.
Uniform
Year 1 students are required to wear their Physical Education (PE) uniform to school on the following days:
-
1Y: TBC
-
1K: TBC
Children may also wear their PE uniform on days when they participate in after-school co-curricular activities.
On all other days, children are required to wear their formal uniform.
Play hats are recommended every day and must be worn during Recess and Lunch whenever the UV rating is 3 or above. Play hats are compulsory in Terms 1 and 4.
Please visit the Pulteney Uniform Shop for opening times, seasonal uniform guides, and to purchase any required items.
Brain Food
Please pack a small, healthy snack for the morning Brain Food break.
Ideas include:
- fresh fruit or vegetables
- cheese
- yoghurt
- dried fruit
We ask that Brain Food be unprocessed and that no nuts or nut-based products be brought to school, as Pulteney is a nut-aware school.
Children may also bring an additional healthy snack for the afternoon if needed.
Tuck Orders and Lunch Boxes
- Children may bring their own lunch and recess items from home or order through Qkr! App.
- To download the app go to the Parent App and visit links or go to your smartphone’s app store
- All online orders must be placed before 8:30 am on the day.
- Please ensure lunch boxes are clearly named
- No lollies please
- Please note Pulteney has a water only policy and therefore please provide a named drink bottle with water each day.

- Please wait with your child in the playground until the courtyard doors open at 8:15am by a staff member.
- Alternatively, you may choose to drop your child at the Symonds Place ‘Kiss and Drop’ from 8.15 – 8.30am.
- Classroom learning will commence at 8.30am promptly. Please ensure your child is at school on time to start their day.

The children are encouraged to be independent with the following morning tasks:
- Carry their bag to and from the classroom
- Unpack their drink bottle and place it on the drinks tray.
- Unpack their brain food and place it in the brain food basket.
- Leave their lunchbox in their school bag.
- Place their play hat on named hook in the classroom . (If attending OSHC an extra hat remains in front pocket of school bag).
- Children then move to a quiet activity in the classroom.
AFTERNOON
- The school day ends at 3.20pm.
- Children will be taken downstairs to the undercroft. Parents and caregivers are welcome to enter the courtyard (undercroft area) and collect their child from their teacher.
- It is important that children say goodbye to their class teacher each day so that we know your child has been safely delivered to you.
- Children attending OSHC will be collected and taken to the OSHC building.
- Children not collected from the designated area will be walked to the blue boxes in the outside playground and remain with the teacher on duty until 3.40pm. Children remaining after this time will be taken to OSHC. If the weather is inclement the children will remain in the undercroft with the teacher on duty.
If your child requires OSHC and Vacation Care Services please fill out the enrolment form here
