Celebrating Grandparents and Special Friends Day

This Friday, 31 July, we’re looking forward to welcoming grandparents and other special people into our centre to celebrate Grandparents and Special Friends Day. These relationships hold a unique place in a child’s world, full of stories, cuddles, patience, and unconditional love.

Days like this remind us how much a child’s sense of self grows through the web of relationships that surround them, both at home and at school. The Early Years Learning Framework speaks directly to this, noting that children belong first to a family, a cultural group, a neighbourhood and a wider community. Every relationship a child experiences whether with a parent, a grandparent, an educator, or a friend becomes part of the foundation they build their identity on. (Peers, 2018)

When home and school work together, children don’t just learn content; they learn who they are. They see the important people in their lives valued within our centre, and they see our educators and environment reflected in conversations at home. This continuity helps children feel secure enough to explore, question, and grow with confidence.

So on Friday, as our rooms fill with the laughter of grandparents and special friends sharing stories, playing games, and simply being present, we’re reminded that it takes a whole community of caring relationships to help a child flourish. We look forward to celebrating with you all.

Grandparents’ and Special Friends Day

Our ELC and Junior School students are looking forward to welcoming their grandparents, special friends and other important people in their lives to School on Friday 31 July.

To help ensure a comfortable experience for everyone, we ask that each family invite no more than four guests.

ELC Event Details

8.45am – 9.30am                   ELC Stay and Play Visit, ELC Classrooms

Grandparents, special friends and significant people are invited to join our ELC students for a special Stay and Play session, sharing in their play-based learning.

9.30am                                    Morning Tea, Kurrajong under croft (ELC guests only)

Guests attending the Stay and Play are invited to remain for morning tea.

Important Information

• ELC children who are not normally booked on Fridays are welcome to attend with their visiting grandparent or special guest.
• ELC guests are welcome to attend the 9.45am Junior School Assembly if they also have grandchildren in Reception to Year 6.
• Students without grandparents attending are warmly encouraged to invite a special friend or another important person in their life.
• Short-term parking is available on the corner of King William Road and Gilles Street.

Long Lunch Class Basket Donations

• Make a monetary donation online, allowing the organising committee to curate beautiful hampers; or
• Donate an item, with collection baskets available in all ELC and Junior School classrooms.
