ELC, Term 2 Week 7 2026
Reconciliation in the Early Learning Centre
In the Early Learning Centre, our commitment to Reconciliation is not limited to a single event or week, it is thoughtfully woven through our everyday practices, relationships and ways of learning. We recognise that we learn and play on Kaurna Land, and this understanding is embedded in our daily language, routines and rituals. Children engage with Acknowledgement of Country through spoken words and song across each learning environment, building a respectful awareness of place and history. Our daily rhythms also include observing the weather and representing it using Aboriginal symbols on coloured stones, supporting children to make meaningful connections between land, language and learning.
Through literature such as Somebody’s Land, Nobody’s Land and Terra Nullius, alongside the ongoing use of Kaurna language in greetings and play, children are invited to explore diverse perspectives and develop an early understanding of culture, identity and belonging. In keeping with a Reggio Emilia approach, we view these experiences as part of children’s growing capacity to interpret and express their understanding through many “languages”.
To mark Reconciliation Week, ELC children collaborated with their school buddies on shared experiences including creating tapping sticks, engaging with Indigenous stories and contributing to a whole-school paper chain project. Using the colours of the Aboriginal flag and responding to the theme of “All In”, children participated in a collective expression of connection and commitment.
We look forward to seeing the completed paper chain displayed in the Chapel, representing our shared responsibility to listen, learn and walk together with respect, now and into the future.
