What’s been happening: Stage 1 and 2 Outdoor Education
Over the past few weeks, the Stage 1 and 2 Outdoor Education classes have been exploring environmental spaces and participating in activities to learn more about the natural environment.
We have visited metropolitan foreshores to look at the impact of the algal bloom and dune systems at both the Torrens mouth and the Tennyson sand dunes. We also travelled to Belair National Park to look at park management, as well as riding and orienteering through the park.
Both classes had the fortunate opportunity to go to the Forktree Project and work with Tim Jarvis and Liz Bulmer on their rewilding project. Students contributed to the circular economy in various ways, including:
- Propagating seedlings.
- Clearing threatening species.
- Helping set up for Pulteney to propagate our own seeds in the future.
This connects with the Year 7 and 8 Outdoor Learning programs, where students take saplings to Robe as part of their outdoor learning journey in Term 3.
Stage 2 Sailing
The Stage 2 class completed their sailing preparation day in readiness for their Coorong expedition in Week 10. Assisted by fantastic weather, students practiced skills in:
- Tacking .
- Launching and returning to the beach.
- Sailing a triangular a course.
The students learnt a lot, and we thank Brighton and Seacliff Yacht Club for the use of their facilities and excellent coaching.
