Deputy Principal, Term 2 Week 10 2026

Thank You, Pulteney

As I come to the end of this chapter, and after nearly 50 years in education, I find myself filled with gratitude.

The greatest joy and motivation throughout my career have always been watching young people learn, grow and discover who they are. Over the past five and a half years at Pulteney, that joy has been ever present. Our students have challenged me, made me laugh, inspired me daily and reminded me why education is such a privilege. My hope for them is that they never lose their curiosity, compassion and desire to make a difference.

When I reflect on Pulteney Grammar School’s history, I am reminded of the enduring purpose that has guided this community since 1847. Throughout its history, Pulteney has sought to provide a meaningful education that prepares young people not simply for success, but for service. Our students are encouraged to be grateful rather than entitled, to recognise their responsibilities to others, and to contribute positively to the world around them.

What has always stood out to me most, however, is the remarkable sense of community that permeates every aspect of school life. Built upon the values and vision of our founders, it continues to thrive through the relationships, traditions and shared experiences that connect us and create a genuine sense of belonging.

There are so many memories I will treasure. Founder’s Day celebrations, Year 12 Halfway Day, Valedictory and the Honour Walk, school productions, sporting events and Intercols that continue to grow in significance and excitement each year. I have especially loved being involved in the Junior School productions, face painting before performances became a highlight! These occasions bring our community together, but it is often the smaller moments that mean the most: the smiles in the corridors, the cheerful greetings, and the countless “How’s your day, Mrs Dalwood?” and recently “are you really retiring Mrs Dalwood?” conversations that brightened every day.

Through all of these experiences, our spirit of camaraderie has shone brightly.

I would also like to acknowledge the spiritual foundation of our school. Grounded in the simple yet profound principles of treating others as we would wish to be treated and loving our neighbours as ourselves, our Anglican tradition continues to provide a strong and inclusive framework for our community. It encourages us to embrace both tradition and change while remaining committed to care, respect and service.

Together, these values have created something truly special, a school community that feels like family. They remind us that relationships matter, that belonging matters, and that we are stronger when we support one another.

I hope this has been your experience of Pulteney. I know it has certainly been mine.

While I will miss being part of daily life at the school, I feel incredibly fortunate to have played a small role in Pulteney’s ongoing story. It has been a privilege to work alongside dedicated colleagues, supportive families and, most importantly, extraordinary young people.

To our students: as I step away, I want to leave you with this thought, your potential is limitless. Be curious. Be courageous. Be kind. Take what you have learned and use it to make a positive difference in the lives of others. The world needs your ideas, your energy and your compassion. I’ll be cheering you on.

Thank you for the memories, the laughter, the friendships and the opportunity to serve this wonderful community.

To the parents: It has been an absolute privilege to partner with you in your child’s education. Thank you for your trust, your warmth, and the vibrant community spirit that makes Pulteney Grammar School so incredibly special.

To staff: There is great satisfaction being part of a team aligned in your values. Putting students at the centre of all we do and working with you all to achieve this has been a highlight. Thank you for making my time here so special. Wishing you continued success and all the best in the chapters ahead.

To everyone in the Pulteney community, thank you so much for your support, collaboration, and the wonderful memories we’ve created together. I wish you all the best in your future endeavours being Adelaide we are sure to bump into each other. Don’t forget to say “hi”, smile and be kind.

I will always be grateful to have been part of the Pulteney family.
