one ninety, Term 2 Week 6

Jesus Christ Superstar

Wow – just wow. What an incredible run of shows for the performing arts team. I walked away from the Thursday night show and instantly booked another ticket for Saturday. Not only were the performances brilliant; from the chorus to the orchestra and the incredible leads, but the joy in performance, evident on stage was contagious.  Congratulations to all involved; those on stage, our orchestra, stage crew, set and costume designers, our performing arts staff and the wonderful Jo Casson from Ding Productions, through to the parents who have managed the busy rehearsal schedules, make up trial runs and many, many renditions of the songs at home, I’m sure! A production that all involved should be very proud of, as we are of you!

Reconciliation Week

The Senior School led into Reconciliation Week with a special chapel last week, where students were able to engage in a Q&A with local Elder Aunty Elaine Magias. This gave our students an opportunity to explore their honest questions and listen openly with a view to understanding the lived experience of another.

Elaine is a proud Kaurna woman, with strong ancestral connections to the Nurungga people of York Peninsular and the Ngaduri people of the mid north of SA. Elaine works for the Department of Education and is regarded as an Elder in her community, through her work and fierce commitment in supporting Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander students and families in the education system. Elaine is a passionate advocate for incorporating Aboriginal histories and cultures across the Australian curriculum.

For some of our Year 12s the first time they vote will be in this year’s referendum on the Voice. Elaine explained this to us in a very simple and relevant analogy, that of being like a school ‘SRC’ or our Forum of Prefects and the role they play in ensuring the Principal hears the voice of the students. Elaine certainly gave us plenty to consider from her presentation.

2023 Lowitja O’Donoghue Oration- Don Dunstan Foundation – Keynote Prime Minister Albanese

With thanks to the Don Dunstan Foundation, we were able to take two leaders from Year 9 and Year 12 to attend the 2023 Lowitja O’Donoghue Oration last night- delivered by Prime Minister Albanese. Mr Albanese’s speech focussed on the Voice and the journey from the Uluru Statement from the Heart to this year’s referendum.

Founders’ Day

Monday morning was a significant celebration for the School community as we marked Founders’ Day for Pulteney Grammar. Both at the cathedral and for those who attended assembly at School, we were provided with a chance to connect with our history and celebrate our achievements as we enter our 176th year.

Reminder: Year 12 – Halfway Celebration Thursday 1 June

Thursday 1 June, marks the ‘half way’ point for our Year 12s of their academic classes, before study leave and their final exams. After June 1 there are a mere 78 school days until Valedictory. In recognition of this special milestone in their journey, we are pleased to welcome Year 12 students and parents to a “halfway” celebration, providing a social function for you and your child to gather with teachers and other Year 12 parents to celebrate this unique journey.

The Quad Deck will be transformed with outdoor heaters, lights and music, with drinks and catering from 5.30 – 7.00pm.
